OT--Kel-Tec SU 2000

Post by BlueStateSaint »

Gang, I'm thinking about getting one of these, and I've heard some "mixed" reviews about them. Has anyone had any experience with one of these, and how has said experience been? I'm thinking that my wife could use it, when I'm not around . . .

I've thought about one on and off again for a while. They are still on my list, just not at the top of it. Jeff Quinn posted a great write up on them on Gunblast. Here is the link: http://www.gunblast.com/Kel-Tec_Sub2000.htm

While I don't have experience with that particular gun, I have shot Kel-Tec guns owned by myself and others. Each and every single one worked well. Based simply on my experiences, I would be willing to buy one and not expect anything to go wrong. Kel-Tec can't be all bad if Ruger copied one of their designs.

When I read Mr. Quinn's article I saw that the Kel-Tec uses Glock magazines.
I bought a Mech-Tech for my Glock 34 and it is a blast!
Almost boring in its accuracy.

I bought the version that takes S&W 59 series mags since I had a 5906. I bought it used at a gun show and found out on the first range trip that it would not reliably eject the empties. Sent it to Kel-Tec with a note describing the problem and that I had bought it used. Got it back around two weeks later with the bolt head replaced in a factory box with the paperwork and tool at no charge other than me shipping it to them. Had I pressed the issue when I initially called, I probably could have gotten a call tag and had it shipped to them on their dime.

I could carry it, the 5906 and as many spare mags as I could lay my hands on in a laptop bag with no one the wiser. I sold it a couple of months back since I have transitioned to the Glock platform and am keeping an eye out for the Sub-2K that takes Glock mags. Those are a bit hard to find around here right now but I'm in no rush since it was a "nice to have" rather than a "need to have" for me.

Lots of folks snub the Keltec products but I've had several over the years. When the P-11 came out I bought 4 of them. Took them to the range and promply put 10 boxs of verious 9mm down range, even some lead reloads. Not a stutter in the bunch. Those were sold and I ordering one of the early stainless p-11's for myself. I had some FTF's but come to find out it was a slightly rough breech face. Once it was cleaned up it ran fine. For some reason I sold it. Now I have a blue one that has had the slide NP3-ed.
Keltec makes good guns. Their low prices only reflexs their hi-tech machining and polymer precess's to keep prices down.

My every day carry is an old Glock 22 duty trade in. The slide has had the NP3 treatment to give it the tu-tone look so I have the Tu-tone Glock 40 version of the Sub-2000. I've side mounted a red dot and flash light.

It fits in the bag with three 31 rd mags too.
