Post by FredGarvin »

Hello all - I just got a used EMF Rossi SA 1892 in .357

Does anyone know where I can download an owners manual?

Can I tell from the serial number when it was made?

Thanks -

No, but this DVD is way better:

Also get the follower and ejector spring and a safety plug if yours has the ugly safety.

Cimarron's manual should be close enough. I didn't realize they were Chiappas.

Welcome, Fred.

I'm curious, though........... What is a "Rossi SA 1892" ?

I have Rossi Model 92's, but have never heard of either a "Rossi SA", or an "Rossi 1892" model.

Thanks for the great responses.

Sorry for the poor description, the gun is an EMF Hartford '92 manufactured by Rossi of South America.

Welcome to the forum. You have just bought your favorite rifle, it will be the one that rides in the truck with you everytime you leave the house. Mine stands by the back door just waiting to jump in the truck, a 92 .357 just can't be beat.

Hi Fred,
Welcome to the fire. I can't tell you exactly when it was made but I can tell you about. Does it have this ugly safety on it?
Image

EMF first started importing the Rossi 92's about 2000. I had the privilege of spec-ing the EMF imported Rossi's and one of the ings I ask for was no ugly safety on the bolt. But about late 2006 Rossi insisted on adding them to even the EMF guns. What that means is your gun was made somewhere between 2000 and 20009. If it has the safety it was made since 2006.

Definitely ugly safety, but I'm completely ready to ignore it. I can't tell you how glad I am to hear all the positive responses about this gun. This weekend I'm definitely taking it out in the snow for a little noise making.

Cimarron and Taylors started importing 92s (their first btw) a few years ago from Italy--made by Armi Sport/Chiappa...And Legacy Sports (LSI), which prior to 2009 imported the Brazilian Rossi 92s under its "Puma" name--joined them last year in importing the Italian guns. In the process, they KEPT the Puma moniker. NONE of these Italians are Rossis!--so while very similar, I wouldn't go by the Cimarron/Taylors/LSI specs. The OP's EMF 1892 is a Rossi, and as NKJ says, since 2000 all EMFs have been.

Fred - You can do yourself the best service, by adding a peep sight to your .357.

I have a 16" Big Loop, did so ASAP - and found it about triples the enjoyment & is accurate to boot.

The easiest (least expensive) is to buy one of Kiowa's bolt peeps, that is a drop-in replacement for the lawyer safety
but -
a Williams or Lyman peep can also be mounted, after two holes get D/T'd in the receiver to accept them.

I used a bolt peep on one of my Rossi M92's:

And a Williams 5D-94AE I had on hand (free) for another.

A happy choice, for me.

Hagler! Don't scare him off! He just got here

Fred, congrats on your new carbine - you will love it. I also recommend anything from Nate - first class all of the way.

His replacement safety plug is quick and easy to install. One of the first things I did when I got my rossi recently.

Fred, different opinions on this here but I just use/ignore the safety and it is no problem for me. I don't feel like doing anything to change it.

Are yours fairly 'snug' then? Mine flop around so loosely they often go 'on' when they were left 'off' and vice versa. So I do sort of 'ignore' them as in I don't depend on them to keep the gun 'safe' but I do have to keep checking to be sure they didn't flip to 'safe' during the past few minutes of handling the gun and shouldering it to fire. Maybe mine are just looser than average (but I own several Pumas and they are all like that I think - maybe some worse than others). Definitely I like the Marlin safety's positive 'click' on and off better.

My safety is very snug; we'll see how it goes. It's good to hear that there are options. Thanks
