DIY DVD for PUMA,EMF,& NAVY 92 by Rossi and some parts

Post by Nate Kiowa Jones »

It took awhile for me to get this back up here on the new forum, but here's the info for the DVD and parts for the Rossi made 92 leverguns. Although it's geared toward the Rossi made 92 it will work for any 92 pattern gun. For the original winchester 92 about the only difference is the leaf spring for the hammer. This is true for the Cimarron, Taylors and EMF 92 made by Armi Sport. The Rossi 92's, the browning B92's, and the new Win92's use a coil and strut. Most everything else is the same.

One word of caution for the Cimarron, Taylors, Charles Daley and EMF 92 made by Armi Sport. Unlike the original, these guns have the lever to bolt pin is screwed in. Somebody's gonna end up beatin the hell out of that thing trying to get it out.

The DVD shows you how to clean, modify and repair your Rossi 92.
DVD SELECTIONS: Introduction, Strip 2 Clean, Subassemblies, Action Mods, Reassembly and Additional Bonus Features.
Running time: 60 Minutes

Price: $29.95 plus $3.85 shipping and handling.

The DVD mentions some parts upgrades, too.
One I highly recommend is to change the plastic mag tube follower to my $19.95 steel original type. The plastic one tends to swell or crack jamming the gun.

If your gun has the goofy little add-on safety on top the bolt, I have the plug for it as well ($18.95).

Or this if it’s a stainless gun.

The DVD not only covers normal takedown but it also covers the modification for the action work. It covers all the refitting of the parts and the mods to all the springs but one, the ejector spring. Some folks have cut coils off but this sometimes causes the gun not to eject properly. This is because the spring does not have much travel to start with and if it’s cut over time they tend to take a set and no longer work. I have the proper replacement for it. It’s as long as the original but the wire size is smaller. The one on the left is stock. This spring is $8.50

The video is GREAT!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I tried to de-temper, stretch and re-temper the ejector spring. I was unable to keep it the proper diameter. I was glad I have a box of springs.

Buy the spring from Steve.
Kind regards,
Tycer

What happens is in most cases the cut off spring starts out just fine but over time and because we store the guns with the actions closed it takes a set and doesn't work as well. You won't notice it right away because it kicks out everything but the last empty. This is because there's a live round under every one before the last one. This live round helps push the empty one out if the spring is too light. Some just quit altogather.

Yep, the DVD is great. If you own one of these guns, it's well worth it. If nothing else, you can strip the gun apart just to clean it. I used it to put the ejector spring in. That alone was worth the price of the DVD as that little spring made opening and closing the rifle a lot easier. The 92s are easy to tear apart. Not that much fun to put back together unless someone shows you how. I'd still have a pile of parts if it wasn't for that DVD.

Hey Guys,

My new Rossi 92 is still in the box, but Steve's video and parts have arrived!! I've watched all of the video, and some parts of it twice. I'm glad to have the information....quite different from my Marlins.

The DVD is some of the best money I ever spent!

Even if you don't plan on doing any action work, it's worth it just for the much needed (for me at least) tips on disassembly / reassembly.

Steve, of all the levergun info videos (AGI and Larry Crow), they are all informative, but yours is the most informative for the shade tree smithy. I've learned some of your short cuts that make the disassembly , reassembly and the maintenance of the 1892 easier. Now do your magic with the Marlin 1894. Thanks again!

Rossi DVD

Post by mack69 »

Wow this sounds like a great deal....I picked up a Rossi large loop in .357 late last summer. I like to get to know my firearms intimately if you know what I mean. I want to know how and why they work. My buddies think I'm a bit off for tearing my guns down for a respectable cleaning right off but that's just me.
When I first brought my 92 home, I tore into it using some basic information I found on the internet. As others have mentioned, tearing them down is the easy part but putting them back together is a real bear.
Looking forward to getting my DVD Steve...thanks

I used your DVD to modify all three of my Rossi's..I don't have a bench grinder so I used a dremel tool with a sanding drum attachment for the grinding part..there very reliable and wicked smooth....

Outstanding video. If you own a Rossi you should have this.
The only problem I have is both my 92's are NKJ specials... now I have to look for a used Rossi just to tinker with.

Got my video and misc parts today. Video is excellent. I had done everything I could think of to slick up the action, but Steve had a couple I hadn't thought of.

My video and parts are on their way.

I just picked up my new Rossi 92 in stainless, 357 mag. I was surprised to see that the safety has been eliminated. At first I thought it might be stranded stock, but it turns out the gun is "fresh". Good news for all who disliked the old safety.

One thing that surprised me about the carbine version is that the magazine is not parallel to the barrel bore either my version, or the pictures that came with the gun. Is this something particular about 92s/357s or did they blow the aesthetics in the Rossis?

My video and ejector spring came today.I have watched it and I think I'm about ready to start work on it. Should be a good slick .357.
Thank's to Steve for the good service.
