Well I bought another this week.

Post by MikeS. »

I posted early last week that I'd bought a Marlin 1894SS .44mag off of Gunbroker. So I went to my local fun store Friday to get a copy of their FFL to send to the seller. As I'm waiting my turn to talk to the owner a woman walks in and has a rifle she wants to sell them. It's a Marlin 336 I can see from the action. Turns out to be a .30-30

With deer season having just ended Tom the owner told her he didn't have much call for it so he couldn't offer her much for it. He bought it from her for 200.

As he went to get his Federal form for the transfer I picked it up to look at it. I could see from across the room that it had nice wood. Turns out it is a WesternField 740A-EMN by Marlin. So I was real close from looking across the room. If the WF serial numbers are the same as the Marlins then it is from 1969. It has been shot very little. The wood is really nice. She even had the original manual and the tag that hung from the trigger guard. A nice extra touch.

I bought it off the store for 225. Tom made me a great deal! He was happy to turn it around so fast. Basically I paid his standard transfer fee.

So last night as I got to the security checkpoint at work I'm talking to my buddy, one of the Federal Police at the instillation I work at. I tell him about this really nice rifle I just bought. He asks me if a big gal had sold it and I said yes. Turns out the woman is his next door neighbor. Her dad had passed away a couple weeks ago and she didn't want the rifle.

Too funny, what a coincidence! So I picked up a very nice older levergun for a really nice price. Kinda offsets what I paid for the 1894 earlier in the week.

For you picture hogs I'll post this one up with the new to me 1894 when it comes in, OK?

By averaging the 2 together I did OK. I can't wait to get a decent day and go shoot this .30-30.
