We just got a Puma with the plain 'Patridge' style front sight and I like the Firesights, but didn't want to go to the expense and hassle of redoing the whole sights and so on.
I bought from MidwayUSA a pack of three colors of 0.060" fiberoptic (three 4" pieces for $18 I think).
I started the hole in the front sight with a Dremel and a round burr-type bit, then extended it down the angle of the sight-top and out the front, with a very small (less than 1/16") regular drill bit I have, and gradually used the burr to enlarge it until the fiber was a snug fit. I used a small triangular, then round, file to make a light groove in the top of the angled sight. It works pretty well. I like the green and yellow colors better than the orange, because they glare less. You just use a lighter to heat the ends and they flare out to lock the fiber in place.

I really like it should be nice in the deer woods this season.

Re: Winter Project - make a fiberoptic front sight
That is exactly what I've been semi-looking for. Some time back we were discussing fiber optic sights and I mentioned that all those I've seen had been a round top bead profile. I wanted a post profile. You have just made it.
I'll have to keep you in mind when I get my Marlin D&T'd for receiver sight.
Any way I could work a deal and have you build me one?
