OT-Is anyone here familiar with the Columbia, MO area?
I have a job interview with a company down that way on Friday (phone interview) and seeing as how I like to get ahead of myself, I did a little research on the town and was getting a mix of people who thought it was a great place to live, and those who thought it was a crime infested hell hole.
Anyone here know it first hand?

That's where I live. It is supposed to be one of the best citys in the midwest to live and raise a family. It's bigger than what this farm boy is used to, but it's where my wife wanted to settle when we came back from Idaho, what's a guy gonna do?
It is the 4th largest city in Missouri, and like any other town, there are good areas and not so good areas. I think the good areas far outnumber the bad. It really doesn't feel as big as it is, mostly I think because it's fairly spread out.
I don't have any statistics in front of me, but just going by what I hear on the local news, I don't think the crime is any worse per capita than any other metro area.
Being a huge collage town, the city government is very liberal. But on the other hand it means lots of collage girls running around.
Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Thanks for the info. It's always best to get it first hand.

There are quite a few areas around here that are owned by the MDC. I have fished some of the lakes, but never hunted any of it. Mostly because I hunt almost exclusively on the family farm which is about an hour from here. If you look up the Missouri Dept of Conservation on the net, there should be maps and other info on the areas to hunt. The MDC does maintain a nice public range just north of town in the Rocky Fork Conservation Area. That's where I usually go if I don't want to drive out to the farm.

I drove through Missouri once a few years ago and it looked nice. I can't say it's my first choice for a new place to live, but the job looks potentially cool. Of course, I'm kinda putting my cart before the horse since I just got to the first round of interviews.

Don't feel like you need to tell me at all, I was just curious.

I had the interview today. I'm not sure how I did as I've never been good with interviews. I tend to get nervous.

They said they'll let me know whether I make the next cut in a week or so. I'm pretty psyched I got noticed by a company half way across the country given the current economy. I just need to find a way to sharpen my interview skills a bit.TedH wrote:Did they say when you might hear back from them?

Good luck on the next stage, I'm sure you can do it.
