John:
Very glad to hear the surgery went well and that the prognosis is optimistic.
Those DaVinci machines are something; a local guy with pancreatic cancer had and 8-hr surgery with one of those machines and thus far he is in remission.
Best of luck for a swift and complete recovery!

Might as well face it, you're addicted to guns . . .

Nice to see you got those three things in their proper order of importance... Those of us with stethoscopes and scalpel are just the 'tools'; the Big Guy steers the boat while we row and bail. Same would go for the people who invented the DaVinci. Amazing stuff, though. Thanks to the mercy of God, your prayers and those of others, and a great physician and staff, the surgery "went as well as could be expected.

Re: OT - Prayers, Please - Surgery
Thanks again, all - prayers have been answered.
Mat 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Feeling good but reclining or walking; sitting up for extended periods of time is not the best thing for recovery.
Les, I forwarded your PM and sent one myself to the Levergunner who might be facing a similar surgery soon, and I gave him my home phone number so that he can call me, and I'll return the call. I have unlimited long distance calling for a flat fee on my phone setup. In that way, I can give him some tips, such as the easiest way to get out of bed or out of a chair to save the ol' abdominal muscles from any strain!
OK - back to a hard day of watching TV and reading and sleeping and eating and stuff! Best wishes.

Re: OT - Prayers, Please - Surgery
Thank you, all. I have come through the tunnel back into the light of day.
My radical robotoc prostectomy on September 18th was very successful and without any appreciable pain.
Doc removed my catheter yesterday (the 28th), and now I am walking around and enjoying life as before, with no discomfort at all, albeit no lifting or work is allowed for a while.
It appears, from studies of cells surrounding the area, that there was no spread of cancer. Subsequent monthly blood tests for the presence of PSA (Prostate Specific Antigens) will reveal if any of that disease spread elsewhere, but it looks like the operation was a complete success and I am cancer free. That's what I'm claiming!
FYI, the good side of removing the prostate is that your PSA is 0, because there is nothing to produce the antigens anymore; so any unexpected change in your condition shows up immediately. And, of course, the verified source of the cancer is removed. That was what made me decide to bypass the other options, such as injection of a medicine, weeks of radiation and/or chemotherapy, or any other options. I am glad that I took the leap, and thankful that I had an excellent surgeon and this new robotic surgery available that made my recovery so quick and painless.
But above all, I give glory to God who ultimately gave me healing and comfort through all of this. I was calmed by His promise of a home if something had gone wrong in surgery, and the comfort of His angels during all of this journey.
One last time, thank you, Levergunners, for your prayers and thoughtful posts. I read each one again and again, and they cheered me up during these two and a half weeks.
