Got to tell us more about those abbreviated .410 shells...
Sure, Hobie.
For those who are curious, back in 2006 I read an article about Depression (the real Depression?) folks using .410 shotshells in .45-70 TrapDoors and modified .410's in .45 Colt guns to put meat in very empty pots. I had a partial box of .410 shotshells and no gun to shoot them, so I decided to experiment a little. I posted the results here on LeverGun and I think it can still be found at:
While it was cool proving the concept, the idea was ultimately abandoned in favor of the Speer Capsules (as suggested by Hobie) due to cost and labor involved. BUT, now knowing that it ispossible to do, that's one more thing in my "arsenal of survival tricks" in the event things get really tough or it "hits the fan". Maybe future folks will be reading what we did to put meat in our empty pots?

I wonder if this can be made with black powder to shoot in a .44 1858 Remington reproduction with a cartridge conversion? If you could figure out how much black powder to load it should work as well ones loaded with Unique.
Interesting, did some thing like that back in the 60's, got the idea from Keith and tried it after writing him. Used a 45 colt THE OLD 2400 powder and the gas checks both reversed to form the cup so to speak and a light roll crimp, worked well on no neckers!
Back in the middle 60's, I met a man on horse back that was traveling across the US . We got to talking six guns and he showed me the Colt SA he was carrying . And how it was loaded with every other chamber with the cut down 410 .Don't remember how he did it , but seemed to work very well for him. The other chambers were .45 Colt ammo.
Often wondered if he made it. Older used looking gun and a very large well trained horse . He also used another horse of the same caliber as his pack horse. The whole group made quite a picture , even in the local news rag. I've never forgotten him.
