OT - Prayer Request - Updated

Post by Griff »

I told myself, I wasn't going to do this... but... Mom called me today, seems Dad fell a couple of times, been having problems with balance, but is now in the hospital in Oak Ridge, TN suffered a stroke and as of now, an unknown prognosis. Mom asked me NOT to come, so all I can do is pray. A lil' help can't hurt.

Prayers said for all.

Griff, I was once told "don't bother to come" and didn't. Mistake. The older generation doesn't want to impose. If you want to go, go. I have a feeling, knowing you, that they will be glad to have you there.

Prayer up, and by the way, GO. I am with Hobie on this. Talked to Dad one evening and he sounded awful. Told him maybe I should come out to see him, and he was adamant that I not do so. My stepmom was worried. Wrapped up a bunch of business the next day and left the next and drove 14hrs straight. This was Tuesday. Ended up putting him in the hospital late on Thursday. Got back to his house about 1a.m. Stepmom woke me at 4:30 a.m. , said doctor called and he had a stroke. Went to hospital, talked to doctor, back home for a few more hours sleep, then back to hospital. He passed away later that day, at sunset.

Prayers sent...Go! The absolute worse thing that can happen from you going is you put your arm around your Mom and squeeze, and your Dad is really OK. I'm not thinking thats such a bad outcome. What if something goes wrong and nobody is there for your Mom? I got to TN on Friday night and Dad pasted on Monday. I would have felt bad if I didn't get there, not so much for Dad but for Mom. Tom

Re: OT - Prayer Request - UPDATE

Post by Griff »

I didn't make it in time. But... please, no sorrowful wishes... he was 85 last August 18th and I got to buy him lunch 10 days ago, give him a hug and remind him he was still my hero and role model. Listened to him explain his last wishes and he told me to look out for my Mom. He may have been my step-father, but he was my dad, strong of character, big of heart, quick to smile & laugh. Maybe he knew... or not... but it was a good visit. I'd been able to visit several times a year, and felt each one could be the last, so made the most of them.

Donald Jackson Griffin, 8-18-1924 / 9-12-2009, son of Lee & Parlie, husband of Nola, father to Dennis & Sharen; a share-cropper's son who educated himself... maybe he didn't change the world, but he sure graced those that knew him with a quiet humility and sure knowledge of what's right and important.

Lastly, if you're still lucky enough to have yours parents (if not make it your kids), call them & tell 'em you love 'em. Better yet, visit & give 'em a hug.
