It will do for now, other plans can be made as is required.
Re: OT - 'new' WY ride...
Looks like a good deal, but how's that 2 wheel drive going to do in the Wyoming winter?
Hope all is going well for you so far.

Re: OT - 'new' WY ride...
Had an '81 up until our second kid meant my (pregnant) wife had to ride in back (in the bed) for 35 miles one winter (thankfully her Carharts would barely zip over the 3rd kid-to-be), since the other two were in car seats, and she had a bad knee and couldn't work the clutch. That was when we got the two-seater truck...

Looks like a good set of wheels. Should be easy to take care of when needed.
Show us some more pics of Torrington as you get the time.

Torrington is in Wyoming's "banana belt" - closer to Nebraska and Nebraska weather than the mountian weather I grew up driving a '68 Dodge Dart in...TedH wrote:Looks like a good deal, but how's that 2 wheel drive going to do in the Wyoming winter?

I check in to my billet tomorrow.
Lucked out with the truck. Found it within 2 hours of landing in Scotts Bluff.

Good buy. Turn the key and away you go for another 160k of trouble free motoring, not like this modern day junk. Have a 76 F100 just love them old girls, pretty keen on old girls that wear skirts to.

Those babies really last. If and when the motor goes, its a piece of cake swappin' in a long block to give her another 200,000 miles.
Look into "antique tags". Your truck qualifies. Its a good way of screwing the government. Here in Pa., we pay a one time fee of $100---no inspection --no yearly registration ---unlimited driving ---very cheap insurance The only catch is that you have a "modern" registered vehicle for each licensed driver in the house. Wyoming may have more easier laws.------------------------Sixgun
p.s--Is that the "No Tell-Motel" your in?

No problem finding parts for those rigs. And you can swap that 305 for any of the small blocks from 265 clear up to 400 CID, factory or custom strokers, for anything you need.

RKBA stickers are my contribution.
There are only 2 motels in Guernsey, and in a town this small ain't no such thing as "no-tell"...
It's got snows on the rear already. I figure swapping 4x4 for no computer and a normal carb is a fair swap.

Did you find work down that way?
"Torrington is in Wyoming's "banana belt"..."
I hear on the news of road closures and winter storms down that way, when we are having sunshine and decent weather. I didnt know anyone called that part of the state the banana belt. Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas also get a lot of those storms that don't sem to come this way much. Weird that farther north has less winter weather and storms.

Re: OT - 'new' WY ride...
My wife drove a 2WD '78 just about the twin to that one, for a few years in Star Valley traveling between Freedom and Afton every day for work. It did just fine, and I never had to pull her out of anything. BTW, a small RV cam, Carter AFB, and an aluminum intake from a 84 Z-28 will really pep that thing up. I rebuilt a 305 for her just for that PU, and used those components. Sold it to a buddy of mine when we moved and he drove it back and forth as his primary driver for about 10 more years before trading it off. I think he put about another 80 thousand on it before he bought a new truck, and it was still going strong. Great trucks. But the floorboards are the weak spot, so make sure you undercoat that area well.TedH wrote:Looks like a good deal, but how's that 2 wheel drive going to do in the Wyoming winter?

I think the difference is one of intensity & duration. I don't remember this part of the state sitting at -20 for extended periods, but do remember hearing about occasional blows & drifting issues.Weird that farther north has less winter weather and storms.

Torrington...?
The Cody-Powell-Cowley corridor is usually referred to as Wyoming's Banana Belt. (Sometimes the poor deluded folks from Dubois claim that distinction for their little burg too...)
FWIW, palm tree fossils abound in wetern WYO, even in Oregon Basin -- just a .45-70 slug's travel East of Cody.

My nephew's who grew up in Torrington always marveled at the length and severity of winter here in Western Wyo. At the lowly elevation (less than 4000'?) it's more of a banana belt than most of the state. It can get real hot there though.
Nice truck. I'm with all of you guys that like the good old ones.
