Successful hunt draw!
Last year I drew zero tags in Oregon's stupid draw system for hunting special area hunts. Just checked the web site and I made up for it this year with successful draws for my first choice for both Mule deer buck and Bull Elk!!!!!!!! Guess I need to start sighting in a couple old guns before fall! It's gonna be a long wait until Oct. 3rd opening day for deer, and Nov. for elk!

I guess we'll be seeing some more of that great jerky around Nov/Dec, on your display table.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
Re: Successful hunt draw!
Well you recently acquired a Winchester 1885 in 30-30 I think ! That would be excellent for the mulie !
And how about a Sharps or something along those lines in 44-77 or 44-90 for the Elk
Congrats

Congrats Vall!! If you put in long enough, eventually the odds will go your way.
I think your 40-65 roller would make a fantastic elk rifle.
I have yet to hear from CA, but so far all I have is Utah mule buck. CA will most likely be a bust.
Good luck and we are looking forward to the pictures.

Re: Successful hunt draw!
I drew nothing last year also, and put in for buck deer, doe, elk and antelope. This year I dropped the antelope application, and didn't draw doe tags (AGAIN!) but I got buck and elk both for Chesnimnus unit. We know the unit well, and if we're not picky we all four should limit out on bucks by 9:00AM opening day. If we want to get picky we might take the whole day to choose a decent one.pharmseller wrote:Poo on you.

As for elk, it's a great unit also, and we know where they are in certain types of weather. Big question is what will the weather be in Nov.? Since they're migratory, they'll be way up high if the snow doesn't fall, or the temps stay high. If it gets nasty they'll move down into the draws and creek bottoms.
I'll be working up loads for the Roller in .40-65, and the Ballard in .45-70 for elk. The Win. 1885 in .30-30 will go for deer, but need to pick a second rifle as alternate choice.
