a Winchester Model 1892, .25-20 WCF, made in 1907
last November I posted that a pal of mine had found the subject rifle in his aunt's closet, here is that original post:

Well, today I have my hands on that rifle !! My pal finally brought it over to the house for cleaning up and drooling over.
Round barrel. Everything cycles just fine. No real rust. I don't know how long it has been sitting in the closet, but my pal reckon 30+ years, maybe more, and never fired in all that time. My pal has no clue how long it's been since it was fired.
Of particular interest is the rear sight, it is one of those flip-up kind with the slider to adjust for various ranges.
I ran lots of Hoppe's #9 through the bore and the magazine tube, swabbed 'em dry, then dripped on lots of oil everywhere for rust prevention. I'll let that soak in then wipe it down again.
I don't a camera, so no pics of the actual rifle. But here is a pic that "looks just like it:"

Now to find some ammo and go shooting !!!
Cheers,
Carl

Classy! What do you use the .25-20 on, anyway? I don't know much about it. Too much for squirrel or rabbit?

Good little 'Varmit' Rifle. Great for shooting 'Coyote'....'Prairie Dogs'....a little light for Deer. Great for Squirrel and Rabbits...Cosmoline wrote:Classy! What do you use the .25-20 on, anyway? I don't know much about it. Too much for squirrel or rabbit?
Just a fun little cartridge to shoot all the way around.

Looks like you will be having some fun!
I was looking at one with a full octogon bbl a couple months back on gunbroker in 38-40. It went for $1500 bucks. Looked like a pretty nice shooter.
Someday, I'll get one.

Great turkey rifle if legal in your area. I have two 25-20s and use them both on varmints and turkey.

What model is the Marlin?
I have a Marlin 93 made in 1894 in 38-55. Love that rifle!

It's a model "94". It's a bit lighter that the 92 Winchester.

Thanks, I use it a lot. I take it or my 44-40 "El Tigre" in the truck most of the time.
