1889 Marlin in 44-40

I found a dealer who has a 1889 Marlin in .44-40

he rekons its rare - so is it ?

Condition Excellent Serial No. 79616

Price $1900

Well they made 50,000 of them, and of that 50,000 about 21,000 were in .44-40 caliber. This was the most common caliber made in the 1889, so I'd say it's not that rare. As for the price, I think he's dreaming if he thinks he'll get anywhere close to $1900 for that one. Now if it were a .25-20 he'd be way too low, as they only made 25 of that caliber!
