OT - S&W 61-2 Escort vs Beretta Bobcat

I'm wondering if any of you folk have any experience with either of these? I'd like to get a little pocket .22 semi-auto and I really like these two. How do they compare in size to each other, I can't find a side by side comparison.

Haven't seen an escort in a long while now, but it was a neat little piece, the "under" barrel is what S&W based their 422 series 22 pack en pieces on, The 21A has the advantage of a DA trigger and as I remember a pop up barrel, its still being made and parts shouldn't be a problem.

You may all so want to look at the Taurus TP-22 series, we used several of them or the squad I worked on a couple of years passed, have the tip up barrel, are double action only and feed any kind of 22 lr we put in them, really liked the Aquila HP stuff

Don't have a side by side to show but believe you will find the 21 a little thicker in the grip area,

I would strongly suggest that you look at the newer mini 380's out there if this is going to be used as a true self defense gun.

But as a comfort piece either will work for you

My mother has an Escort.
It has always been dependable, and surprisingly accurate.

For MY hand I would get the Bobcat. I also like that you can load (and unload) by tipping up the barrel. I wouldn't turn down an Escort though. Magazines seem to be easier to get for the Bobcat.

My advice would be to go up in size just a little and get the Beretta Cheati. I probably didn't spell that right. Anyway, I have one of those and it's a very reliable, and accurate little .22.

I used to have a Bobcat, or something very simular, years ago, with the tip up barrel, in .22 Long rifle. It was about the size of a good 25 auto. It was very accurate, for what it was, but would occasionally misfire, and I never did get it to completely fire, 100% all of the time. This sorta soured me on the tip-up barrel, because while handy in some ways to load and unload, the gun did not have an extractor, so if you had a misfire, you could not simply rack the slide and eject and feed a new round. This made it slow to get back in action.

It was double action, However, and you could click on the unfired round, but quit often it still would not fire on the second or more pulls of the trigger, so I finally got rid of it.

If you are wanting a little pocket gun, for protection, I can highly recommend the little Kel-tec 32 auto, based on the one I have, which is very reliable, and I have two of the little NAA's mini-revolvers in .22 mag, they are harder to hit with, but very reliable and very easy to hid. When I carry one, as opposed to something bigger, I carry two, or carry one, plus the Kel-tec. If you are going to carry a tiny gun, for protection, which is probably not the best idea, anyway, carry two, so you still have a gun when one runs dry. But there are times when I just can't carry anything bigger, but I can carry two or even three tiny guns, on my person, where even a slightly bigger gun is out of the question.

I am not a big fan of mouse guns, but they are still better then no gun.

Some time back, Ysabel Kid was nice enough to post a picture of my Star.380; that is about as low as I am willing to go.
Having said that, I have two platforms; that I can choose from to build a locked breech, John Browning, 1911 basic design, .32 NAA from or on.
It is still under consideration, it should be very viable.

Just my opinion, but this is the best .22 mouse gun out there.....about 11oz empty and holds 8 LR.....never will have a mis-fire or FTF.....I've had mine since they first came out and will not likely sell it. Accurate enough for grouse, or deadly white rocks.....

The Kel-Tec P3AT is a little over 8 oz (empty) and shoots 6+1 .380. For a mouse gun I would choose that or the Ruger LCP over the Bobcat.

Do a search for "mouse guns", as there's a website I checked back when I first got my Taurus PT-22 * which had reviews of all "sub caliber" (small bore) backup or hideout guns.

* You can search my posts for a review of that one, as well as the Bersa Thunder 380 CC which I ended up keeping.
