Bandolier/Scabbard

Post by Tamlin »

I have a Rossi 16" .357 levergun, and am wanting a nice over-the-back scabbard to take it hiking. I've found several different types, and am thinking about the Rusted Fables' Grizzly Bounty (http://rustedfables.com/index.php/Scabb ... ounty.html). Anyone have experience with this (or other) brand? I don't ride horses - this will be strictly an over-the-back scabbard.

Thanks in advance.

if I may offer a thought ..

I used to have and carry a shotgun for western reenactment, and if you don't have a way to
either hook or connect it to a belt it won't stay where you want it.

it will spin and the weight will drag it down.

I made it work with a belt. if I get a chance I'll dig it out and post a pic.

I found one at Sportsman's Guide for $44.
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=282557

I have never bought it, but am also looking for an over the shoulder scabbard for a lever. I have also seen others that have dual straps to slip over both shoulders. I will look up the links I have saved somewhere.

Another source. Check out the bottom four:

Look at the one in Johnny Whacko's post My 94 got her nickname. That's a neat looking scabbard. Can be used either slung off a saddle or over the shoulder/back. I don't have one maybe Johnny can chime in on that.

I have had and still have several Triple K products that at their inexpensive price have worked very well and have had at least the expected service life. Not everyone has a Leupold pocket book or need such expensive items.

Actually, I started making my own gunleather because I couldn't afford the good stuff, but I'm entirely too proud to buy stuff like Triple K sells. If I wanted red dye all over my stuff, I'd already have it there. Their stuff is made out of crappy leather, and apparently, there's no quality control.

I don't go around soaking my leather in water to cause any dye runs. But hey, you do it however you want.

I have watched the comments in regards to wanting a scabbard for carrying a short rifle over the shoulder or on your back. I did some such advertised in a Cheaper Than Dirt flyer catalog. It is made of the so called ballistic nylon and called a MOLLE shotgun scabbard. Measures 29 inches long for tactical shotguns. Comes in Black, coyote tan, green, and Army digital. Stock number was MOOLE-252, MOLLE-251, MOLLE-250, and MOLLE-700. Where I live I usually like nylon stuff due to high humidity and am thinking of getting one for my Stevens 311R shotgun. If you don't mind it not being leather, it looks good. Address is http://cheaperthandirt.com price is listed as 39.97. When I tried to get one they were awaiting arrival of their shipment of them. Has additional "D" rings and retention straps. I haven't check recently to see if they have them yet. They do have a picture of them under those stock numbers. Just a different idea. Be good......

That's a little out of line Travis. You've got an opinion of TripleK and that's fine but just because it's your opinion doesn't make it so. I just bought a holster for my Ruger Bearcat from Ruger that was made by TripleK and it is a quality, well made, holster. I've got other holsters and belts by TripleK and Hunter and they are all good, rugged, products. Do they match Galco quality? No - but they don't cost an arm and a leg either.

I learned a long time ago that just because I don't like another man's gear not to knock it. What's the point?

NOW!!! A lot of us have been working on and with Bear to get him to mellow out his posts and it looks like he is coming around. WAY TO GO BEAR!!!! But here you (Travis) come along and are as rude or ruder than Bear has ever been in one of his post. Don't give him any excuses!!

EDIT: OOPS!!! After reading "Bear's" responses in the "OT-Interesting moral/ethical dilemma" thread, it looks like Bear hasn't changed. That thread is locked now.

Because he's encouring people to buy stuff they'll be disappointed in; an awful lot of us have precious few dollars to sink into our shootin' gear, so a $50 disappointment IS a big deal. You'll notice I didn't say anything about that turd of a rifle he has on his posts. The scope had to cost twice what that cheater bar it's attached to, at least!

I hope you can take the above in the way it was meant; I find humorous barbs to work a hell of a lot better than butt chewing.

I would just like to say thanks for all of the ideas and suggestions - they have been great. Still haven't decided what I want, though -- :)
