Arming Myself... With Books

Over the past couple of months I've mentioned here on the forum that I've purchased a fair number of brand new firearms (5 new levers, 2 revolvers and a shotgun). I've also invested in reloading equipment for the calibers (.44 Mag, .357 Mag & .30-30).

But my favorite investment so far over the past couple of months have been books. Although I've always been a student of history (world and American), I often simply borrowed (from friends or the library) resources for educating myself. Desiring to have my own personal library though has been my motivation to start acquiring books on these topics. Amazon.com has become one of my favorite stops for shopping as of late. On my blog I have a list of the books (linked to Amazon.com) that I carry with me in my truck. My books are my friends, providing me with companionship for the many hours I spend alone as I travel the country.

Have you seen the Edward R. Hamilton catalog? They have lots of good books. They sell overstocks and closeouts and such. They also have a website, edwardrhamilton.com, but they don't sell through it.

Books are another hobby of mine.

Long ago I was told to buy one book covering each firearm you buy. I now have books for firearms I don't own but I think are neat and multiple books covering the same firearm.

Sometimes I find the reading and research more interesting than shooting the actual firearm.

Now, everyone knows that truckers from flyover country can't read, especially stuff about history, politics, and philosophy! That's something only the edjumikated college kids learn to do, them what's always telling us what to do, since they know so much...

OTOH, if you insist on violating a stereotype, if you haven't read any of the historical fiction by James Thom, I highly recommend them. Revolutionary war to Civil war in era, and often focusing on the central midwest.

If you don't mind "vintage" copies, you might try ABE Books. I have gotten a lot of old (some even out of print) books there. Many were less than $10!
