New poster here. Nice to find this group. I have both a Hartford case colored, octagon barrel .357 1892 rifle, and a NIB .45 octagon barrel, saddle ring carbine same specs. I shoot the rifle, mostly .38 spl because it's cheap. The .45, I've never fired because I don't reload and the ammo is expensive. What I'd like is a .357 carbine. These guns don't appear to be available any more in the case colored octagon barrel versions. And the blue or stainless versions seem to have some kind of added safety of a type I'm not familiar with. Can someone point me in a proper direction to find out about these guns. Are they no longer available, and what is this safety stuff all about. Finally where might I best trade the .45 for a .357 in the same condition.
Thanks,
Larry

The EMF Hartford model 92 is made by Rossi in Brazil. All the recent production has the safety on the bolt, but there are fixes for that. I have one of these in .357, mine is the Saddle Ring Carbine version with the case hardened receiver.

Re: EMF Hartfords
Yep, the lawyers even got to the Brazilians. EMF had the last of the Rossis w/o the bolt mounted firing pin block safety. Although not as unobtrusive as a tang safety, pretty simple ¼-turn safety. Other than being described as a "wing-nut" and ugly, I haven't heard of prolblems with them.
You describe your .45 Colt as "NIB .45 octagon barrel, saddle ring carbine". I haven't seen such an animal. Can you post pics? I have a .357 SRC Rossi I'd be willing to trade for a .45Colt carbine, but it's not an EMF Hartford and certainly isn't NIB, but is in very good condition.

My mistake, I was looking at my rifle when I wrote that. The carbine is indeed a round barrel.

Re: EMF Hartfords
Larry,
EMF has just what you're looking for - .357 1892 carbine 20" round barrel with cch receiver and blued barrel - look at the 1st image and read options below it: http://www.emf-company.com/1892-winches ... bine1.html. Call EMF and ask for Debbie; 800-430-1310; she'll fix you up. It will have that goofy safety but that's not very hard to fix. Ask her if there are any scratch & dents in your configuration. I just got a scratch & dent from her (.45 Colt blue carbine) and saved quite a bit and I needed a magnifying glass to find the blemishes.
EMF is a great company to do business with and they stand behind their products.

Re: EMF Hartfords
EMF still has the 92's in all configurations. The only guns not shown here are the 16" blue or stainless trappers.laocmo wrote:New poster here. Nice to find this group.
