There have been some old photos posted from others on this site, I too have picked up a few at flea markets, etc and hope you fellow levergunners find them interesting. Here is one dated 1927. looks like one guy is shooting a marlin, the other is maybe a remington model 12???? Tang sight on the Marlin.

LOL!, That was my first thought when I saw that picture, I think Joe and Sam might have been out at Wilburs farm for a sunday dinner when a woodchuck made the mistake of making an appearance on an otherwise slow boring sunday afternoon.

On further looking at the picture it likely was a planned outing.
Those caps that Joe is wearing and Sam is holding are "sporting" type hats, at least they were back then.
Not the usual fedora or straw type brimmed hat that was common in those days if you were out and about.
Those hats were like todays ballcap. Informal and would be used for driving, boating, riding motorcycles or shooting.

Bwanadave, I dont think it is an 1890 winchester. The forearm on those are straight "corncobs", whereas this one has a taper on top, much like the Model 12 or 1912 remington. Leverdude, thanks for IDing the Marlin....how do you know it is an 1893?? Why not their 1894 model? (I dont know my Marlins as you can tell).What caliber were those in (44 WCF?)
Sixgun, I wonder about that on all the old photos I see. Now that picture was taken 81 years ago. Even being generous and saying they were in their 50's means they are long gone...and they probably were older than that....maybe mid-late 60's?

The levers on the 93's are longer between the forward edge of the trigger guard & the pivot. Theres an obvious dip between the trigger guard & pivot thats a dead give away too. A 1894 as the pivot point right at the front of the trigger guard.
You can tell a 93 lever from a 336 lever because it doesn't have such a pronounced dip as well. It almost goes straight across on a modern gun although the functional geometry is about the same. I mean its real easy to use a 93 lever in a 336 or vica versa.

The 93's came in 38/55, 30/30, 32 special, 32/40 & I think 25/36. About like Winchesters 1894.

Marlins 1894 was a shorter action chambered for 44/40, 38/40, 32/20 & 25/20. Like Winchesters 1892 & earlier short actions.

I wonder what caliber his is in. Did he bust it with a 38-55 or was it a 25-36? Of course, did he even shoot it? Maybe Sam shot it and let Joe carry it LOL! I wish the picture came with all this info but frankly, at least i know the exact date and the state it was taken in! Some of the other ones I will post later dont even have that info.
