Humor - kids signing old songs

Post by Ysabel Kid »

I'm one of those evil overbearing parents that refuses to let my kids listen to the garbage that passes for music these days - especially rap or hip-hop. Fortunately, my kids don't seem interested in this noise anyway. They do like Mommy and Daddy's music though. I've slowly gotten into the modern age, and we got them both inexpensive MP3 players for Christmas this past year. I've downloaded some of our music, and they enjoy listening to it in the car.

I've also discovered how to download songs, and have started buying a couple here and there. Fun stuff mostly - songs that remind me of my youth. A couple weeks ago I downloaded "Bad Bad Leroy Brown". The kids love it! I burnt it with some others to a disc and they are always asking to hear it. It's nice to listen to songs where you can actually understand the words - and they are not x-rated!

Or at least I thought. Perhaps understand and remember are vastly different things! Yesterday I overheard my daughter singing "Leroy Brown" to her self. Only it was "Levy Brown". And instead of a ".32 gun in his pocket for fun, and a razor in his shoe", according to my daughter, he has "32 guns in his pockets for fun, and a laser in his shoe"!

Yeah they can be pretty funny at times. My parents and sistem came back from a camping trip once and told me about the young daughter of the other family singing "I see those potty lights".

Rap and hip hop are not music. If someone thinks it is have them hum the melody to their favorite song. Can't do it. There isn't any melody. A song has a melody.

Bobby Bare has some good songs. "The Winner" was always a favorite of mine but it never got much air time because it was so long. Then there's "Drop Kick Me Jesus."

If they like Leroy Brown, they'll like "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" too, I'll bet!
