OT- Irish Stick Fighting

Post by Rusty »

Rusty Jr. ran across this on another site and I thought it was rather interesting.

I was wondering if anyone here might know anything more on the subject.

I know that Cold Steel has an Irish Walking stick reproduction that is made out of some kind of space age polymer.

Here I thought this was going to be a joke about the Irishman whacking someone who stole his whiskey with his trusty shillelagh!

Thanks for the very interestng link. A thick blackthorn stick is my constant companion. Getting hit with that thing is like getting hit with a piece of rebar. It can and will break bones.

Several years ago when I was taking Hapkido we used different types of stick including canes. I just never knew that the Irish had it down to such an exact art.

This is a cool site. I bookmarked it for future study and sent it to a friend of mine.

We have a thing here called american stick fighting, except our sticks have levers and hammers and triggers and they can reach out and slap you from quite a bit farther away. :D
