454 corbon ammo
A buddy got a new hogleg for hunting went to the range with some new ammo corbon 335 gr LBT 1550 fps out of a 71/2" SRH grouped good but had to go home and drive the cases out of the cylinder with a punch & hammer they load that stuff HOT. Last thing you need is a gun locking up or cant eject when something is wanting to eat you. danny

Re: 454 corbon ammo
First year production Ruger's SRH 454s had a problem with the space age alloy chambers grabbing the cases on hot loads thus preventing manual ejection. The problem was factory corrected.45 LC lead loads shot in the chambers can cause deposits that grap the longer 454 also.

Re: 454 corbon ammo
Ruger still ain't got it figgered out that for that kind of pressure, you need to roll-burnish the chambers with about a .001" included taper to facilitate extraction...

Is this a DIY or does it need to go to a specialist to burnish the chambers. danny

Re: 454 corbon ammo
We haven't had any problems with sticky 454 cases from our ammo that is loaded "hot". It is all about the process used when forming the brass, and the combination of components that makes a difference. The ammo your friend was using is good stuff, I won't knock it. However, if you (or your friend) need ammo for a particular gun, especially one like you mention that may be finky, I encourage you to call and discuss your needs. Whether you call me or Cor-Bon you should be able to get a product that will work effectively for you. I am happy to discuss this at length with you whether you are going to make a purchase or not, so don't hesitate to call.

Thanks for the offer, my buddy is now using your 300 LFNGC and working up a load for elk , I load for 45 LC for hunting and use your 180 WFN in a short bbl 357 for bear protection, that bullet works just fine for that. We had a big increase in bear encounters in Lincoln county since all the problem bears from Yellowstone area and Glacier/Bob Marshall areas are dumped in the Cabinets and Yaak. Iam getting 1300+ fps with lil' gun in a 3" bbl no pressure signs. danny

That three inch bbl. sounds like a cannon, Danny.
I mistakenly cut down a 7.5" FA 83 in 454 to ejector rod length (actually FA did the cutting) and it was no fun with full power loads.

Re: 454 corbon ammo
I have an older SRH in .480 Ruger, and it only has a problem with sticky extraction if I use Factory Speer loads. Handloads loaded to Hodgdon Website maximum have never been a problem. I used a micrometer and the Speer factory brass was .001 larger than what the Hornady factory loads and my handloads were. It appears to me that the Ruger chambers might be a little tight on some guns. You might want to use a micrometer and see if that is the problem. If so, a gunsmith could polish the chambers for you and make a big difference.
