Wow, just wow. Try and order reloading supplies....

Post by O.S.O.K. »

I just ordered an EAA Tangfolio 10mm Auto from Buds. I'll post a brag post about that later - as this is a new caliber for me, I "need" reloading dies and components.

I can not find one on-line catalog house or vendor that has dies, brass and bullets available. None.

I can get dies at one place and non-carbide dies at a couple others - bullets at one place. No brass anywhere.

I didn't think it could get any worse that it's been over the past few months- but it has!

Who would've thought that there'd be a run on 10mm auto stuff?

Crazy.

There is a run on everything.

I am sure you will enjoy the 10mm. It is my favorite caliber to reload. Easy size to handle. Not too big, not too small, just right. Also you can go from mild to wild easily.

Yeah, its crazy.

And I've been "putting off" getting a 40 or 10mm for a long time - but I finally caved and ordered it. The price is hard to beat - $406 )(shipped!) for a 15 round new in box 10mm that by all accounts is a very high quality pistol.

I posted this on another thread but here's the pic of the Witness 10mm:

I'm glad I stocked up last fall on reloading supplies,
I was afraid if the current administratrion was elected this would happen.
I got brass, bulk ammo, primers etc, I ordered an extra 8 pounds of H322 for my sharps and from the time I read the webpage to the time I placed the order it sold out of the 8 pound containers. It took another 5 weeks before Midway could scrounge up more.
All I'd like to get now is a couple of pounds of Unique and I really won't need anything-ever.
Unless I get a 45 colt levergun of course.
I'd like to thank President B.O. and Ms Pelosi.........

I like mine so much I'm 99% sure I'm going to sell my SIG 229 in .40 since the 10mm can do what the .40 does but the .40 can't do what the 10mm does!

Well then I'm glad I found a place that had it! Well I'd share but I don't know if they actually have it all in stock or just have a crappy web site.... I'll let you know when I find out. Or maybe not - might need to keep that one in my hip pocket!

And I'm pretty well stocked for realoading supplies - just didn't figure on AWP posting pics of his 10mm and bragging on it and making me want one which lead to me buying this one and that means I need a totally new caliber set-up.....

Yes, another member here PM'd me and pointed me to a good auction too - thanks again "other member" :D

I haven't checked the bullets yet but I'm going to see if my order gets filled.

Yep it's like that everywhere. I've been trying to find 218 Bee supplies, dies, brass, bullets, etc. There is no place that has everything, and even finding one of the three is difficult. I hope the manufacturers can catch up soon.

I have a terrible thought. Could the retailers be helping the shortage along just to boost prices? Maybe I'm just a bit cynical, but...

Depends on whether you mistrust democracies morphing into socialist police states, vs. capitalists trying to make a profit. Both can be obnoxious, but the latter at least have competitors providing alternatives, and can't imprison or kill those who won't buy their products...

I think they are just out for the most part. Sure, some are taking profit - but I don't think they'd hold back inventory to make the prices go up. Just doesn't make sense - think about it.

I was at Cabelas here locally today - bought a box of bullets. But of course, I was looking around = they have a pretty full bulk ammo section right now - 9mm, 45 ACP, .223, etc - all available and seemed like plenty there. The section was hopping too.

I think people are just genuinely (and rightly so I think) worried that there's going to be some kind of ban or big tax on ammo, etc. - something like that and they're wanting to stock up and that's driving the outs and price increases.

Actually, I was on Midway looking for a front sight blade, and saw they once again have lots of powders back in stock.

Maybe the world isn't ending yet, after all...

I checked Midway, but they are not listing the powders I want. Unique, 2400, Varget, IMR3031, IMR4350 and probably some more. But it is true, nothing they have listed is out of stock.

Retailers have to make hay while the sun shines. If they don't have it they can't sell it and they can't make money. They can't get it because they can't get it. It is NOT hidden in some secret location off-site in a cynical move to wait until it is banned and they can sell it for twice as much.

The dealer I work for is having a devil of a time getting guns or reloading supplies. He is aggressive in that he works hard to build relationships with suppliers and I've often heard him say, "send me all you've got" but he's still unable to fill cases or supply everything reloaders need. E.g. do you know where one can actually buy CCI Large Pistol primers?

Hobie

My local gunshop has about 3500 sitting on the shelf, $4 per hundred. I broke down Sunday and bought 900 of them. I usually use Winchester, but haven't seen any in almost a year.

I work at a Sportsman's Warehouse in Oregon. If you think it is fun to send angry customers home empty-handed day after day, you are nuts. If you think it is a conspiracy to lift prices and boost profits, how in heck do you boost profits if you don't have the ARs, the Glocks, the bulk ammo, the primers, powder and bullets to sell at the higher price in the first place? Believe me, I am a gun owner, shooter and handloader and it is frustrating.
Part of the problem is people radically changing their buying habits after the election in such a way that a lot of the manufacturers were caught flat-footed. We had young married couples buying ARs two at a time after Nov. 5 instead of Christmas presents. We have people buying 5,000 primers and 20 pounds of powder at a time, where they used to come in for 200 primers and a pound or two before.
One thing that is hard for me to understand is that with metal prices down, fuel and delivery prices down and the economy in recession, most of the manufacturers are raising their prices 10 to 20 percent. But that's because we, the gun-owning, handloading public, are happy to pay it I guess.

Have recently been on the great primer quest, I can tell you that Natchez Shooters Supply has them at this time (CCI #300) for $21.99 per thousand. Although, it's certainly painful to pay the $22.50 HazMat fee unless you spread the primer joy over several thousand. They also happen to have Large Rifle Mag (#250) and Small Rifle (#400) in stock at the moment. I'm sure that will change soon though.

CCI LP primers are not a problem in central IL. Winchester primers are the problem.

My daughter in Yuma called me yesterday with the same problem,no Winchester primers and scarce powder supplies. They have some friends from IL. coming for a visit and taking some to them.
It is all hard to come by here in my part of Arkansaw.

Jerry I suspect that your area is out of everything because you are surrounded by Americans! :D

And the hazmat fee isn't a problem if you order your powder, primers and everything from one source and get a decent quantity - it is very quickly "absorbed" when you're spending $300 on components.

The trick right now is finding a supplier that has it all available so you can do that!

No .... the trick right now is finding the $300.00 to do it with. :x
