A couple things I'v been tinkering with.

Post by Leverdude »

I won a 336 reciever on aution at Marlin Owners. As luck would have it I had an old 336SC barrel, a triggerplate & most of the innards. I put together the parts I had but when it came, so did another box. A gift with a 444 barrel, tube & some furniture in it. Since I now had an extra barrel again I took a chance on asking the guy who auctioned off the first reciever if he happened to have another. I got lucky & he did.
So, after thinking about things for a bit I decided to make a 336 SC straight grip crescent butt 30/30 & a 444 pistol grip in the same configuration minus the plate, cept I guess its a rifle because the barrel is 22".

Anyway theyre both ready to go to the smith for barrel installing, blueing & a few details. The 444 barrel used barrel bands before & I'm getting dovetails cut for an end cap & tube stud.

This is the start of the 444 stock,

This is the start of the 30/30, its a factory 1895CL stock.

I had to file away a small part of the reciever flare on the thirty thirty to fit the stock after I removed the checkering, but I'm getting it blued anyway & it sure made for a smooth transition.

Heres the guns waiting for a trip to he smith.

Sometimes I wonder if it is worthwhile gnawing through the leather straps to get up in the morning..................

Thanks,
thats my second try at doing it how Marlin used to. I think its still a bit beefier than they did it but I called it done because it feels right.
