win. 85 never say never

Post by pokey »

saw an old winnie 1885 in a shop over the weekend, ok condition not much finish.
it was a takedown model so i had to handle it, to my surprise the barrel was marked 20 ga.
never have i seen a smoothie 85 before. the price tag was unusual too, said 2500.00/3500.00
fella behind the counter said he figured it was worth 4000.00 needless to say it is still on his rack.
careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

20 GA was the only shotgun offered for the Model 1885. All were Highwall guns, were made late in production, and had 26" nickel steel barrels that were chambered for 3" and shorter shells. They are quite rare, hence the high asking price. A gun in 85% condition will easily be worth that. :)
