lever action

Post by ad1582 »

The lever on my EMF Hartford is loose right out of the box. Is there something I can do myself to tighten this?

thanks!

ad1582,

Welcome to the forum.

Define "loose". Will it lock in place with the action closed? Does it rattle side to side? We need more information before we can made educated guesses.

However the one comment I will make is this: if it's new out of the box gun, the factory repair station should be the one to fix it.

The lever locks in place, but it wiggles from side to side. I wasn't sure if it was normal for this brand or I'm just being picky. This is my first lever rifle for SASS so I'm new. What amount of play is acceptable? - thanks!

I can't remember for sure (been a while since I had it apart), but I think I added a small, thin washer to either side of the lever link pin on my Winchester AE Trapper to take out some of the slop. The good news on the slop, from what I understand, is that it makes them a little less susceptible to getting gunked up from dirt, etc.

IIRC the EMF Hartford is a 92 copy. So the lever design is a bit different from the 94.
I "think" some side to side play is normal. But how much I really don't know.
The Rossi I had did have some play. No where near what a 94 has, but some.

Of course, you are right Joe. I was working on parallel tasks when I responded, and didn't stop to think. My 94 response is probably irrelevant, given the different design.
