Busy weekend! (Pictures added)

Post by Ysabel Kid »

Had a busy weekend on top of a very busy week.

I took off Monday morning for a business trip out west. These are usually killers, as I try not to adjust to the new time zone - 3 hours behind what I am used to - as I find it makes coming home easier. What I end up doing is waking up around 3:30am each morning - keeping "east coast" morning time - then going to bed around midnight each night - keeping "west coast" night hours. After a week of this I am wiped out!

Got back Friday evening, dropped my bags, had dinner with the family, then had to head out to help set up the race-track for Y2K's Cub Scout Pack's annual "Pinewood Derby" race Saturday morning.

My wife and daughter left town Saturday morning for a bridal shower for her neice. So, Y2K and I got to "bach it" (as in "bachelor") all day. It was a blast. We started with the Pinewood Derby races. Neither of us won anything, though the car I helped my daughter build (the Pack lets siblings and girl scouts enter in a separate category) did win second-prize for design. I'll post pictures later. We both had fun though - and that is what was important.

After helping to clean up everything we went out to grab our favorite meal for lunch - sushi! We then headed off to the range. He chose my Taurus PT-99 and his High Standard Supermatic Citation Model 104. The former was to try out another 9mm - the last several sessions have been focused on this cartridge, him having fired a P-08 "Luger", the Walther P-38, a P-35 "High Power" clone, and now the clone of the M9. He was torn - couldn't decide if he liked the Hi-Power or the Taurus better. I was impressed that he was able to grip the Taurus without a problem - and shoot it well! The High Standard had the slide-lock spring fail on us last time we had it out, so I ordered a replacement part from Numrich's. It worked perfectly this session - and was dead-on! :D

Back home - cleaned up - and took care of the pets. Then it was dinner, at our favorite restaurant - Hooters! Yep, he now likes it for the same reason I do! Twerp is growing up way too fast!

After that it was back to home, a round of "Battlefront" on the PS-2 (a tie - I won the first came and he won the second), then we watched the 1982 John Carpenter/Kurt Russell rendition of "The Thing".

Scouting...sushi...shooting...Hooters...video games...movies... all with my best buddy in the world. Doesn't get any better than this!!! :D

My wife just rolled her eyes at us when she got back home today...

Sounds fun. Don't let your wife know - if you look tired and frazzled be sure she thinks it was from work and no play...

I like the safety on the Taurus 9mm SO MUCH BETTER than the one on the Beretta's. I guess the "1911" style of 'thumb-it-down' just seems more natural than the awkward 'push it forward' on the Beretta's (and lots of other DA autos).

Yep, sounds like a nice finish to a long week. I'm getting to old to burn my candle at both ends.

You and me both. It's caught up with me now - today was brutal. I've gotten to the point though where I'm thankful for tough days at work - means I still have a job...

Well, as promised, here are some pictures from the fun "Man's weekend" I spent with my son last weekend. First the Pinewood Derby car shots:

Here's the car Y2K made this year.
Image
"KITT" from "Knight Rider"...

Here is the one my daughter and I made for her - Garfield.
Image
It wone "second place" in design for a non-scout.

And here is the one I did - honoring the USS Yorktown (CV-10), where a couple weekends before our Pack got to camp out.
Image
Everyone liked it, but apparently I included an unseen anchor in my design, because it was the slowest "car" in the whole race!

And finally all of the cars together.

And here is what we took to the range:

Taurus "PT-99"

High Standard "Supermatic Citation" Model 104

Sorry guys, no pictures of our visit to "Hooters"!

Thank you! The eyes are both three-dimensional, and serve the purpose of adding weight. Two 58-caliber round balls from my Zoave supply!

My son's "KITT" car and the Yorktown both have .44 caliber round balls added to them for weight as well!

And you guys thought there wasn't a gun-related tie-in!

Okay - if you insist...

Well, she wasn't there - just grabbed the picture from their website. But you can find a pretty young lass just like here in any Hooters restaurant around the world! :D

50?!? I've been known to consume more than my fair share on occasion, but I don't think I could do 50 - in a lunch hour anyway...

Hobie with the key info. :)

Don't have one here and restaurants (chain franchises) are closing at the mall. But a new wing spot opened - have to check it out.

Well, I've turned Y2K into a "brass vulture" as well. The range was packed, so we asked the guys next to us if they were collecting their brass. Neither was, and both told us to help ourselves. We did - picked up 516 cases (1 .32 H&R Mag; 16 .380 ACP; 44 .48 Special; 206 9mm; 159 .40 S&W; 90 .45 ACP). I imagine my 50 9mm cases were in that bunch! Cleaning up the .40 S&W's now. Recylcing at it's finest!
