This 375 Marlin Is A Keeper

Post by Sixgun »

Dudes,
I spent the day today shooting that 375 Marlin that I refinished from a 98% gun. (yea, these things happen) Anyway, I installed a 10 cent receiver sight on it while I'm waiting for the tang sight to arrive. This thing shoots! I was shooting fast in a nasty 20 mph wind and I was still able to keep 5 rounds inside of 3". A better sight on a better day, taking my time I should easily shrink 'em down to 2". (Hey, it has a 20" barrel)

I shot 100 rounds and no leading whatsoever was encountered. All loads shot about to the same degree of accuracy. Smacking the 200 meter 10" plate was a breeze. My standard load that I use in my 38-55's (21 gr. 5744 with 270 gr. NEI GC sized .377) did chronograph 140 fps slower than my 26" barreled 1894's and 26" Marlin 1893.

Marlin 375 20" barrel all bullets sized .377
brass--blown out 30-30 ----same as I use in 38-55
8.5 Unique w/270 NEI GC-------999 fps
21 gr. 5744 w/270 NEI GC------1238
28 gr. RL-7 w/270 NEI GC-------1665 (the most accurate)

Entrance to club, (see the rebar for my swinging steel plates sticking out of the bed of the Jeep?)
Image,

Marlin with refinished wood, complete rust blue, fire blued loading gate, antiqued lever and hammer-----like the old pre-war guns :D This is the buttstock that had the big chunk of wood missing from the upper tang area--you can still see it but hey, its a $500 gun.-------Sixgun

Looks good Jack!

Been waiting to see how it turned out! Really cool!

I passed up a 375 Marlin at the same show I bought the .33 / '86. Didn't realize what a steal it was
for $275 untl I got home and looked it up
Wasn't perfect but was pretty good.

Ah well. Can't win 'em all.

Like the plates on the Jeep by the way!!

Very good Sixgun. The 375Win likes fast ammo... I've always gotten good results from 2% below max in the Hornady manual with their 220grain jacketed bullet. Never saw a need to shoot cast with it. Maybe I'll have to give it a try!

Thanks guys----these Jeeps are as addicting as guns--This one is an '89 YJ that I bought for my son (well, I think he made the first 3 payments :D ) when he was 16--He's 36 now and I make sure I get my moneys worth out of everything except nice Winchesters & Colts--I hoard them.
The gun clubs range is very muddy with the melting snow and all so I take the old Jeep------- my Rubicon stays in the garage----covered-----------------------------------Sixgun
