Got out to the range with a new acquistion. As you may have noted, I had a few items for sale on the classified forum and as a result of some sales, was able to get back into some long range shooting equipment. Been wanting to do this for a while and the timing seemed right with the political climate and all to get one last "deer" rifle. I used to shoot and be officer rep for the east coast Navy Rifle and pistol team. Back in the day, my home range the 600 meter range at Dam Neck, Va. Each day would begin with rifle practice for two hours. Was nice when we got all the ammo and the weapons and armorer work for free. Well, some 20+ years have passed since those matches and I just wanted to get out and shoot some. I used an M1A then, but played around with a bolt gun in .308. Yesterday I spent the morning at the local pushers place, and came away with a set up that I felt would go sub MOA. Its a remington action, full aluminum block bedding, match 26" barrel, match trigger at 3.5#, topped with a swarvorski 6-18x X 50 scope, Harris bipod. I bolted it all together and got to the range to play today. here is a picture of set up:
The results were as expected and at 100 yards, here was the target. I was adjusting windage to the left with the next two shots. Anyway, shot this with 175 grain match ammo. With 168 grain match, the group opened up to .75" while this one was around .5"
Was nice to get out and shoot. even if it was with bolt toy.

That's a nice set up Mike. I love my levers as much as the next guy, but there's just something about knowing you can reach waaaaaaay out there if need be.

1/2"? Thats all you could do? With a $3K scope? Geeze, my old Mossberg .22 will do that at 300 yards. (yea, right)
OK, the bs is done---thats some might fine shooting. Its amazing the technology of todays firearms. If you were shooting today like I was, I'm sure the wind was nasty where you were as it was here. That sure is some grouping in 20 mph wind.-----------------Sixgun
yep, it was windy today, 15 to 20mph, mostly from behind at the line and was swirling down range. I have the opportunity to stretch its legs out to a few hundred yards local, then 600 yards at some ranges down south and I can still get on Quantico and Dam Neck so I can get out to 1000 yards or so. I also have some places about an hour west of me that I can wring it out on some ground hogs out to about 800 yards. There are gong to be some changes, I have a 30 MOA scope base coming and I think I'm gong change out the stock to Accuracy international Chasis system. but that will be over a period of time. So far though, I am pleased and looking forward to getting these bullets out some distance.

Wow! Impressive shooting, Mike...especially in light of the fact that you changed the scope settings on each of the three shots. I bet if you shot again with the same settings on each round, you'd have one ragged hole. That rifle is a shooter for sure! Now, you just need a hideyhole with a 1000 yard view in each direction to keep the BGs away.
