356 Win and hornady gummy point
My local Hornady dealer is getting the new Hornady gummy point bullets in next week. I am thinking of trying them out. I have had good luck with IMR 4320 and 200 gr Hornady round nose. Has anybody tried IMR 4895 with the 356? I had good luck in 308 with 165 grain bullets and also in my old 35 Whelan with 225 grain Sierras. Since I am thinking also of getting a 308 in a mod 99 sometime this year I thought maybe 4895 would be sort of a dual purpose powder. Any comments would be appreciated. Not asking for loads, I can do that.just experience with it in 356 or even 358. Thanks

Iceman,
I've tried IMR 4350, IMR 4320, H322 and H4895. H4895 was the most accurate with 200 Grain Bullets(cast bullets which should be in 2000-2100 fps range). I think it is just about the ideal powder for this cartridge, based on my own experience and Slim Iorg's load work.

Re: 356 Win and hornady gummy point
Just started reloading the 356 this last fall. I had plenty of factory ammo. I will probably buy some gummy tips for load developement. I found a box of 180fp speers cheap at a hardware store so this is what I started with.
So far I tried H4198 with the 180fp and got 1 in groups at 50 yards with a av vel of 2580fps and extreme spread of 23 fps. But this summer I plan on trying H4895 , RL7 , and H322. I've always had good luck with H4895 in medium size cases . In th 32 special it works better than anything else I've tried.

Thanks for the replies. I sort of thought 4985 (H or IMR) would work fairly well. May not be the fastest, but with a 200 grain bullet who cares under normal ranges. I will bring an empty case and a dummy round to see how they will work out for oal. They look pretty pointy in the photos. Time will tell.

I've had good luck with AA 2015 in my ER with the 220 Speer.
