OT - Grape-vine Wood - good for grips?

Post by AJMD429 »

I just got a couple two-foot chunks of grapevine that are a good 3" in diameter while cutting firewood - anyone ever make pistol grips out of that wood?

I thought it might be interesting.

Long ago, I had a set of poison-ivy  grips, heavily poly-urethaned. Since I don't get poison ivy [yet], I thought they'd make a sort of don't-borrow-my-gun grips if I'd left them unfinished...

I gave myself a NASTY case of poison ivy for my birthday in '06. I've never been that miserable and sick.

YK is right, that would be cruel to let some unsuspecting person handle those.
But hey, they would qualify as "exotic" wood wouldn't they?

As for the grape vine wood, I have no idea. Why not contact Carry Chapman at CLC Custom Grips and ask him? www.clccustomgrips.com

Poison ivy is bad stuff! Can't imagine how you'd shape it without getting the dust in your lungs and that could be fatal! Grape vine sounds much safer!

I say give it a try. I made a set out of walnut for one of my Blackhawks, and if I can do it, anyone can.
