Lunch with TedH...
So, TedH is up here in Chicagoland (westside) picking up som learnin for his job but had the day off - so I convinced him to meet me halfway at the Cabelas in Hammond since I'm coming from Indiana way.
Nice yack over lunch from the Grill, then went to look at the gunracks...
Anybody want a Marlin 94 POST SAFTEy, that has obviously been a "toss behind the seat" (maybe "toss in the bed") Truck Gun for $599 !!?!?!?!
Naah. Think I'll take the Win 88 that looked to be in decent shape for a mere $750...
Weirdest pricing I've ever seen...

Cabelas does not seem to be the place to buy used guns.....They are real proud of them, IMO. The new ones seem to be close to what everyone else is getting for them.....

Re: Lunch with TedH...
Actually, there were some decently priced used guns too... but some totally off the wall stuff as well.
That's what was weird.. No consistency whatsoever.

Yeah, I'm thinking he doesn't drool much anymore over big doubles since "the score".BlaineG wrote:Does Ted drool and scratch alot, like we all suspect?

Re: Lunch with TedH...
I have no idea where Cabela's finds their "gun experts", but they always price their better used guns at least 100% above what most would consider fair. When they screw a seller, er, I mean purchase a gun from someone they automatically mark it up by 2-2 1/2 times for re-sale. There are NO deals to be had fom them.

I got one of those Gamo 1,000 fps pellet guns from them for $100.00
at the grand opening in Phoenix, but that was only because they had a ton of them.
The young sales clerk wanted me to fill out a 4473 for it!
Luckily an older guy came by and told him it was not needed for an air rifle.
But, only because I protested!

Re: Lunch with TedH...
Hey all, I found a 'puter here at the hotel that will let me on this site. Had a good time meeting OI and fondling a few leverguns today. Like OI said, the pricing was very strange on the used guns. They must have a kindergartener thinking up the pricing. Couldn't believe that abused Marlin 94 for $599! But then right on the other side of the rack was a decent shape pre 64 Win 94 in 32 Spl for $499, which I thought was pretty reasonable.
And Blaine, I've been working on the drooling and scratching, but it's a 12 step program. Can't fix it in a day.

Last time I heard about a 12 step program is when my old grade school girlfriend found me & told me she went through it for cocaine.
I was stunned!
Her?
You could have knocked me over with a feather!

Not true...Mike D. wrote:I have no idea where Cabela's finds their "gun experts"... absolutely NO deals to be had fom them....
I got my essentially Nw/oB Davidson Win 1886 TD for about 1/2 book...
They also quite fairly appraised my Drilling ...
All depends on the "Outfiter" on staff... 'cause the money people are clueless. They would accept a $3,000 appraisal for a Mini 14...

Actually I was on step 6 but a week out of town and spending too much time at Hooters has caused me regress back to step 1.Ysabel Kid wrote:

Ah, a man after my own heart. I often frequent Hooters when traveling. The food is reasonable, the pricing is reasonable, the service is pretty fast - and the servers are just great to look at!TedH wrote:Actually I was on step 6 but a week out of town and spending too much time at Hooters has caused me regress back to step 1.Ysabel Kid wrote:
