YEEHAAA!!! New gun comin'......
Well. I finally sold off my old Anschutz smallbore target rifle (haven't shot in smallbore competition in five years), it went to a good home with a young man who is very active in the game. And with a little jingle in my pocket I decided I would fulfill a long-time desire: a new Marlin 39! I stopped by one of my favorite local firearm emporiums on my lunchbreak hoping to find one in the rack -No Joy! He did have an old Marlin 1892 in average condition, buttplate was replaced with a piece of brass stock and the finish showed a fine patina of rusty-blue. The price tag said $600; now, I'm no collector and I have no idea what it's worth, so I put it back and asked for a price on a new M 39. "$499" he said after consulting the computer screen for a minute. "I'll take it!"
says I! And then I added "Ya know, Bruce, you're not gonna' make any money by selling new guns for five bucks!"
He smiled. I smiled. Hecalled to order the rifle. She'll be here on Friday! I can't wait...........

That's wonderful. A new one will be stiff, but some polishing will fix that up. I just don't think they make a better .22.........even compared to your old target shooter, you'll be surprised how accurate the Marlin is.

Thanks guys! I'm going to put a receiver sight on it, just trying to make up my mind whether a Lyman or a Williams. They're both great sights, just gotta' make up my mind. I'll post some pics and a range report as soon as I'm able to get to the range. With the snow conditions here I'll probably need to use the indoor range!

Personally I like the tang sight better . I think it looks more at home on the gun .

I considered using a tang sight, but my experience with them has been negative. They look great, and they work great - they're very accurate_ but the body of the sight gets in the way of my thumb and I can't grip the gun the way I want to. My wife has a Marble's tang sight on her Henry Golden Boy and she loves it, but it doesn't work well for me.
