What Marlin 39 parts do I need to backup?
I have a 1969 Mountie that I would like to get a set of backup parts for. I need a list please.
Kind regards,
Tycer

I am sure someone will come along and give you a complete list. One thing you might need, is a firing pin or two. I have had to replace one in a 39A years ago, and I also had to replace one in my brother in law's 39A, both guns were purchased new by us back in the 80's.
I also had some problems with rounds hanging up in a 70 mounty and had to replace the metal clip that regulates the bullets comming out of the mag tube. This gun wasn't right from the factory, as it was new in the box when I got it.

Your rifle is so new that parts are readily available IF something wears out. The receiver is like any other 39A, from that period, with cosmetic differences attached.
I have a 1947 39A that I use for silhouette and it probably has 6,00-7,000 rounds through it since I bought it. The only part I have had to replace is the lever return spring.

I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

My 1947 Model 39a never had ANY part replaced or repaired - and I can assure you, it was no safe queen.
JMO, but the older they are, the better they seem to have been made.
I wouldn't worry about it, Tycer - unless Remington closes the Marlin plant, of course.

I'm thinking great-grandchildren.
I have backup parts for most of my guns.
Cheap insurance.

I agree with you on that Tycer but you could do what I do for some of my favorite rifles -- buy two. That way you not only have back-up parts but a back-up rifle.Tycer wrote:I'm thinking great-grandchildren.

If it were me, I'd go to Numrich and at least get a complete set of spare springs and screws, an extractor, an ejector, and a lifter. Those are the parts that I've found it's best to have on hand. Maybe a firing pin too.
Re: What Marlin 39 parts do I need to backup?
For me, I always try to have an ejector and an extractor on hand. This is not that I anticipate a break down cuz they are GREAT rifles, but that if something does indeed break I don't like to be out of commission waiting for parts.

Re: What Marlin 39 parts do I need to backup?
39's are pretty simple.
A set of springs....a couple of spare ejectors.... maybe a rear sight elevator and a couple of firing pins. I guess if I was really thinking long term - a full assembly of the rod that goes into the mag tube.. those do get lost sometimes and can be hard to find.
I guess a screw set too... but like the others said 39's are hard to wear out... if you are like me your more likely to loose a part messing around that you would be to break it or wear it out.

Firing pins are the only part I know of that sometimes break.

Re: What Marlin 39 parts do I need to backup?
OK, I'm sure your questions have been answered, but I'll jump in and say these parts:
Firing pin - all pieces
Extractor - all pieces if there's more than one
Ejector
Springs - all of them
Screws - all of them
Pretty much what I have for most of my rifles.
Now, if your 39 is like my 9422, it won't wear anything out. I got my 9422 in 1977 and have yet to replace anything. Probably just jinxed myself.

Re: What Marlin 39 parts do I need to backup?
Jdad brought up a good point I had forgotten when I emailed you Tycer! The spare lever spring and screw is one part that I have replaced on a couple people's 39a's. I personally have never had any part break on a 39a I owned but I have done that lever spring, and one firing pin.-Vall
