Swift Bullet Company - Personal Experience

Post by 86er »

I spoke to representatives at Swift prior to purchasing some of their bullets. They told me the velocity parameters for expansion. After much trial and error, the bullets would not expand. RKrodle and I met Bill Huber, the owner of Swift Bullet Company. I showed him some of the bullets I had that do not expand. He took the time to explain the design and to show us some cut-away bullets that detail the manufacturing process. He said the bullets I had were not intended for the low velocity I was using and he admitted they weren't really tested that slow. He did explain and demonstrate several of his bullets features and innovations. In the end, he was very apologetic and offerred us a 100 count box of whatever we wanted. We chose a different caliber rifle bullet and he gave us pointers on reloading them, and made some admissions about the published data in the Swift Reloading Manual that were enlightening but he would rather I didn't repeat (so I won't). He even recommended some other companies that make bullets he thinks might do what I need. Bill Huber stood by his product, made no excuses, gave a thorough explanation and made a good exchange for us.

180 gr. Swift Scirocco with 94.0 gr. of Reloader 25 in my 300 RUM is my go to long range gun. The bullet has worked well on elk, moose, and a few long range plains game.

I spoke to Bill before my bear hunt last fall about his 45-70 bullets. He was very helpful and seemed genuinely interested in the satisfaction of this customer. I was very pleased with the performance of the 350 gr. A-frame I used on the bear hunt too. Good people.

86er,

Good info and post.
If you don't mind my asking, what caliber and bullets weren't expanding correctly? I don't know that much about the Swift Bullet Co other than they are a premium bullet. What is the magic velocity to make them work?

Thanks

I've yet to load any Swift bullets although I recieved a box of the 44 caliber 280 grain "A Frames" for Xmas !

I am hoping these will do pretty well in a 444 Marlin

MY, it's refreshing to find someone that is honest about their product.

I still say:

"With a bullet the size of a .44 (429) and the hole it makes without expansion, just load up and shoot the bastard!!! I think you'll find that he'll leave you alone."
