I just got home with a round barrel rifle in 38-40. The butt stock is busted, the rear sight is broken, and it is missing the cartridge guide screws. That's the bad part. The good part is it was free! Free!
The bore was black but when I pushed a patch down it and looked it is mirror with no pits and all its rifling! Whoo hoo! It looks great!
The serial number, 7153XX, looks like it was made about 1912. I guess this gun will keep me busy getting it back shooting for a while. I don't think I can get upside down on it.
It is a crying shame the stock is busted but oh well. One of my buddies is already trying to shark me out of it
A good lever day!
Looks great. I'd bet you could do a once over on the stock and make it serviceable and almost like new. That would really give it (the rifle) a lot of character.

Free! In fact he gave me a Lithgow Enfield as well but someone sporterized the stock. I will probably give that one to a friend who likes 303 and has dies for it. Maybe he can put an original stock back on it.
I guess the guy was just doing me a favor. He knows what guns are worth. I was pretty surprised. He probably doesn't have anything in it. The 92 is cleaning up pretty good. It has been raining 92's here lately.
First a guy at work showed up with an octagon rifle in 38-40 which I cleaned up and sold for him. I wish I could have gotten it.
Then another guy at work produced a 38-40 round barrel rifle, but it is in pretty bad shape, missing parts, not shootable. It had a great bore though. I may make him an offer on that one now to get parts for this one.
Now this one pops up. I feel lucky to get this one. If I can find a few small parts for it that is all it needs to be a gun. I am close enough to Mississippi I can just wrap wire around the butt stock and be good to go
