Firstly, I wan't happy with the crescent butt on the PG Miroku 86 that I converted, so last Saturday the tang, lever and stock were replaced with the factory parts and it is now straight gripped, again. It fits me much better this way. If I ever find a PG Shotgun butt that fits, it may go back in that configuration, but this will do for the time being.
Next, with the help of Mike Hunter's expertise, I was able to get the .38-56 front end to fit correctly on one of my old TDs. Now, all I gotta do is shoot the darned thing to see how it does. Should do fine as the bore is mint and tight. I'm doubly happy to say the least.

Mike,
Pistol gripped guns for some reason do not agree with me. Maybe its because I never could afford a nice deluxe gun and stayed with the straight jobs on which I learned on. Plus, watching all those Westerns while growing up all had straight stocks and I just had to be like them.
I like that half rd/oct. barrel on your '86. The 38-56 is one cartridge I never played with so I can't help you much. Guys I do know who have played with it say it is plagued with the same issues as the 38-55. In other words, large groove diameters with a chamber that will not accept the bullet it needs. Take any measurements yet?-------Sixgun. (btw, if it don't shoot well, just send it to me--the WHOLE gun
I have a couple of other .38-56s and have loaded that one for years. This gun has a later, NS barrel that will accept .375 bullets, unlike the .380s that earlier, "BP" guns seem to require. I haven't actually slugged the bore, but .375 jacketed at the muzzle leaves deep rifling marks when tapped in a ways. I have several sized dummy rds to run through the action and they all chamber OK. The larger diameters are a bit tight, it seems, which leads me to believe that the smaller ones will function accurately. A trip to the ranch will tell, soon enough.
