unusual 35 Rem?

Post by El Chivo »

I was just at a gun shop where they usually have quite a bit of older stuff.

They had a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem that caught my eye. Pistol grip, fat forearm, 22" - 24" barrel, and half mag. Balanced nicely. Had a forend cap, instead of carbine bands.

Anybody know that model?

Price was about $550 (tho I'm not in the market)

"1894" has one that sounds similar to what you're talking about. He posted a photo of it on the following thread:

336 A =24"..... 336 SC =20" early ones were not D&T for scope and had Ballard rifling.
I have several and they are my favorite Marlins. :D

Sounds like the typical Glenfield MArlin. They used a combination of rifle forearm cap, but barrel band on the front. I always liked the mix of the two used on Marlin's Glenfield models.

this one was definitely longer than 20", probably 24" but maybe 22".

There was no serial number on the tang, in fact, I couldn't see one anywhere.

The other thing I noticed was the barrel was fairly slim, like a 30-30, and with the larger bore, the walls of the barrel were thin.
