OT but I thought you guys may like.

Post by Nath »

Spent the day cleaning the house for my wife whom is busy at work, thats got to be worth an extra kiss
Then I remembered about a pheasant I got a couple of days ago and so set about preparing our evening meal.
Placing the diced breast meat in a small tin on the log stove in the kitchen I added olive oil and a crumbled stock cube.
I then layered sliced mushroom, peppers, onion, garlic, finely chopped broccoli and sliced rings of leaks.
Finnished off with melted mature chedder cheese on top I reason that'll I'll get another kiss tonight :D

With a good two hours of light left on this cold freezing foggy day I grabbed the Greener and dog. Grabbed the game bag and a hand full of shells loaded with an oz and 1/8 of 61/2 shot.
With in a short walk from home I had shot a crow and found numerous pheasant in a field of lupins that have not been harvested.
I took four flushed pheasant for about eight shots or so, I missed the same amount and some got up as Tia was retrieving to hand.
It was a blessing and a surprise to have such luck, but it was tainted with Tia being naughty! She decided to forget her name and pretend to not hear the whistle :( I'm going to have to spend some time with her on this.
Here 's the pic.

On the way home I passed a neighbour whom has some hens and asked her if she would like to trade some pheasant breast for some eggs.
Eggs for my breakfast on the first then :D

Really cool, Nate. You've always got great posts. Thanks.

Shooting crows in the states will get you in trouble. As will hens, at least in Washington.

Now, with you being English, what is "mature cheddar cheese"?

We have a few types of cheese in Brit, stiltons, cheshire and many others of which chedder is most likely the most popular.
In a mild form it very often has a delicate flavour but mature has a stronger flavour. It's texture can be like rubber to almost crumbly.
Hope this helps Kimwcook.

I wish I could step out the back door and rustle up some pheasants...! Nice pics.

Nath, that was my try at dry English humor. With aged pheasants, beef and such from England. I thought mature cheddar cheese might be something of the sort. Sounds like your mature cheddar is along our lines of mild, medium of sharp. Sharp being quite tangy. I love the stuff.

Nath, I always look forward to your posts. I was out hunting today with the BP rifle and had no such luck, the air temp at 34, the wind blowing from the north at 30-50mh. Not the best of hunting days. Your shotgun is very nice. I appreciate fine side by sides. TIA is a beautiful dog indeed. thanks for the post.

Well Nath, in my book for a nice double that little lever on the top qualifies it. Love doubles but I shoot an 870 20 gauge express with a birch stock. A buddy was given a like new model 21 made in 47. I shoot mine better than I do his but he does very well with that 21.

Great pics.

Nice hunting Nath :D !Makes me homesick for Ohio.I have not hunted pheasants in 30 years as the south doesn't naturally have a population. Thanks for posting and happy new year. 8)
