Couldn't be happier - long wait but it was worth it... handsome rifle, and pretty well fitted, except around the tang, which is passable but not outstanding.
Better quality finishing than my 1894P, and the smooth stock is a very nice touch.
Pics soon!

Brian,
So tell this Marlin challenged lever gunner, what is a Marlin CCL?

Marlin 1894CCL's were special run rifles made for Davidson's !
They were made in 32-20 , 41 MAG , 44-40 amd 45 Colt . They all had 20" octagon barrels and full length magazines.
If memory serves they made 500-1000 of each caliber .
I've been fortunate enough to acquire all but the 45 Colt .

Re: Picked up a NIB Marlin CCL
Right, it's the "Cowboy" version with the straight grip, smooth stock, Marbles sights and octagonal bbl in .41 magnum. I cleaned and oiled it yesterday and found some rust hiding in the screw holes and between metal on metal mated parts, which came right off (I hope) with CLP. Also I noticed that the trigger doesn't "flop" like it did on my 1894P, which I later switched out. Maybe it's because the parts are new and haven't been cycled enough? Time will tell.
I am excited about shooting this rifle - but it is a handloading deal, so this is a jumping in point for me, with all the weirdo calibers I've fallen into. I've been stashing dies, brass, bullets etc. and reading, but it's time to get a press on the bench. I bought the short .44 because I like being able to buy off the shelf ammo for it anywhere, but the ports seem to spit and shout at me, which is no fun when I'm at the indoor range. It will be interesting to find out if the full length non-ported barrel changes my perception of shooting these little rifles. Neither matches up to my 50's Mountie, but then, what does?
Merry New Year!

I've got both the 1894CCL in 41 MAG and a newer 1894FG in 41 MAG !brionic wrote:Right, it's the "Cowboy" version with the straight grip, smooth stock, Marbles sights and octagonal bbl in .41 magnum.
I am sorry to say so far all I've shot in either have been jacketed handloads !
Do have a 41 caliber mold or two but just haven't gotten started yet !
