OT- The only animal I was able to shoot this year

Post by Jason_W »

Was a mole. It got in the house and one of our cats made a game of it, but refused to finish it off. It's back was broken so it was done for and I wanted to do the humane thing. call me a wimp if you want, but I don't have the stomach for smashing skulls with a hammer, so I brought it outside and finished it with my single six.

may the 2009 hunting season finally break my slump :D

Thanks, though I am almost reluctant to give up my title as world's worst deer hunter. Or at least the unluckiest.

So what's the hangin' weight of a field dressed mole? Do you process them yourself or take it to the butcher?

Hope you used the magnum cylinder. Those little diggers can soak up a lot of lead.

I need to know the story. When you shot him, did he go right down? Was a second shot needed for the coupe-de-grace? :D ------------Sixgun

The first shot was the coupe-de-grace. I was just finishing what the kitten started. And yes, he went right down with a single .22 long to the back of the head.

Mole? LOL!!!

The only critter I shot this year (well, actually two of em), were red squirrels that were trying to run me out of the woods with incessant noise and stomping when I was trying to call turkeys. A 1450 fps 1 3/8 ounce load of 5s quiets em a mite.

Jason, you missed the perfect opportunity to try out your 35 Rem load on game.

I know your streak is getting you down. You should take a trip to Colorado, I was hearing about a special tag area where bucks are just standing around as you drive in, there are so many of them. Of course, these are the four and six pointers, you have to walk a few hundred yards to get a Boone & Crockett monster.
