BUFFALO BORE'S 30-30 AMMO?

Post by Bogie35 »

Ok. I've been checking their website almost every day, and their Heavy 30-30 ammo has been "coming soon" for 11 months now! I emailed them and got no response. Has anybody heard anything?

Tim's had a lot of irons in the fire, i.e. demand for the rest of his ammo. Hang in there.

I can't imagine needing anything more than good old GreenBox 170s from WallyWorld for 12 bucks a box.

LISTEN TO MR BLAINE G HERE , BOYS. THE 30WCF/30-30 WINCHESTER IS AND HAS BEEN PERFECTED TECHNOLOGY FOR 100 YEARS. CAN IT BE TWEAKED HERE AND THERE ?? SURE. AND IT HAS BEEN NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE DECADES. IT DID NOT IMPROVE THE BASIC CARTRIDGE HARDLY A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE IT IS WHAT IT IS AND HAS BEEN KILLING THE SHIQ OUTTA GAME ANIMALS IN FINE STYLE FOR 100+ YEARS. WHETHER YOU ARE USING WINCHESTER, REMINGTON, FEDERAL, OR ANY OF THE OTHER PRODUCERS OF 30-30 CARTRIDGES IT STILL IS WHAT IT IS, PERFECTION IN A SMALL BORE MEDIUM VELOCITY LEVERGUN CARTRIDGE.
IM PERSONALLY CAME UP WITH ONE OF THE BEST--IF NOT THE BEST !!! [ NO BRAG, FACT..]-- 150gr 30-30 LOAD YEARS AGO AND WHEN YOU GOT RIGHT DOWN TO IT IN COMPARISON TO THE REGULAR FACTORY 150gr LOADS, I COULD STUFF THE DIFFERENCE IN YOUR RIGHT EYE AND YOU WOULD NOT HAVE FREAKIN' BLINKED.

Well, I reckon that I'll have to agree with the man from the Black Hills. You just can't beat factory stuff. This year one Remington Core Lokt 170 grain put down a whitetail dead-right-there, just like anyother factory load would. That is all a 30wcf needs to do.

My load duplicates the factory stuff. Works.

30-30 is not my favorite round but it seems I have had more of them than anything else. Wait a minute here ?????????????? :)

If regular 170s aren't enough you probably need another cartridge.

I want to apologize. I didn't intend to sound negative toward Tim. I know he's a great guy. I was just interested in the 190 grain load.

About a year ago I was trying to decide what my first lever gun would be; a 30-30 or a 35 Remington. I was planning to go elk hunting with my cousin in Wyoming this fall, and I wanted the cartridge that could best handle it while being an even better choice for the eastern woods whitetails here in South Carolina.

Even though the elk hunting plans fell through, I'm glad I chose the 35 Remington. I ordered a box of Tim's 220 grainers, and they arrived in less than a week! Maybe next year I can go elk hunting. :)

ACTUALLY, IN YEARS PAST THE BOYS USTA HANDLOAD 190gr 303SAVAGE BULLETS IN THEIR 30-30 SHELLS. EVERYONE THEN AGREED IT WAS A BIT OF A STEP UPWARDS IN EFFECTIVENESS DUE TO DEEPER PENETRATION. IT MAY WELL HAVE BEEN BUT THE FACTORIES NEVER GRABBED A HOLD OF IT AND THEY'RE FAMOUS FOR STEALING ANYONES GOOD IDEA, ADDING IT TO THEIR PRODUCT LINE, AND CALLING IT THEIR OWN.
YOU DID SCREW UP A BIT THOUGH BOGIE AS YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT BOTH THE 30-30 AND THE 35REM AND BEEN DONE WITH IT. THEY DO NOT REALLY DUPLICATE EACH OTHER BY ANY MATTER OR MEANS. IF YOU GET YOUR BUTT IN GEAR THIS MORNING YOU CAN HAVE IT SETTING IN YOUR GUNSAFE BY TONIGHT.

Its will even work with the lyman 173gr mold cast from WW and a pultry 28.5gr of H335.
Dropped a buck that dressed out to 140lbs with it this hunting season. Punched a nice golf ball sized hole just behind the shoulders.
Also 300lb Boars seem to drop without a wimper from "slow" 30-30 handloads.
That which does not kill me has made a grave tactical error.

What does a 190 grain hc bullet do that a 170 hc bullet doesn't?

Anybody do penetration tests or anything of the like?

I'm thinking the difference in velocity will cancel out the difference in penetration and you'll get basically the same performance out of both. Especially since we're talkin hard cast, essentially non-expanding bullets.

Bogie, I read somewhere that the heavy 30/30 from BB was a Hawk 190 gr FP that would probably be a good bullet for game larger than deer. I have been using Hdys 170 and HC 173 for years on deer and elk and they work pretty good. Checked my old loading manuals I see that a 190 silver tip in 303 Sav or 30 WCF gets up to 2100 fps thats what most the factory ammo is for a 170 now. Tell us about the range test when you get them. danny
