Very tired now but,,,

Post by Nath »

Had a good day in the field!
I got a call about a dead ewe that is being pulled at by fox and so I was up at 6am to be there before light. I hung around untill 11am and see no fox. The scat near the ewe suggest a small vixen to me, that and the odd small paw mark here and there.
I checked the zero of the Rem before heading for home on a handy piece of flint, spot on and at 182 paces!

When I got home I stoked my stove and vacumed the carpets as instructed and tidy the kitchen
When I'm finnished here I'll roast some potatoes for when my working girl gets home :D ( I'm on Christmas break now, ALLRIIIIGHT :D )
At 1pm I loaded the game bag and dog plus the air rifle in to the car and first went to get some gas from an old world shop that sells everything from shotshells and gunbags to boots n' shirts. I love visiting that shop even if the gas is a little more. ( I mean petrol but as this is a colonial site I'll use the turm gas :D )

I wanted four rabbits for some old folks that my dearest and I will be visiting on Boxing day, I was going to use the 9422 but it is a very quiet dark day here today and I needed to be very quiet so hence the air gun.

After a quick zero check and no adjustment within one hour I had my four rabbits for four shots:D
I will post the picture in a moment!

Sorry about that!

Interesting photo this is, the rabbit closest was the third shot and 2yds away from the tree that the airgun is propped up on. Now if you look real good you can see the pellet just stuck in the bark above the forward scope mount what, 6" high maybe. It got there after passing through his brain box!
All the rabbits taken were selected bucks and the one nearest the gun was the fourth and last taken.
I actually hit him just under the eye and did not kill him instant. He hoped around whilst I reloaded looking pretty fed up. I was just about to shoot again when he suddenly charged back to some bracken and piled up in it and passed away. I was surprised at this as when I got him it looks like the pell went through the upper jaw and did not pass through the skin on the opposite side but it killed him in less than a minute! I've done many a same thing with a 22 and needed a follow up shot allways!
I beckoned Tia to me and pointed her to the fetch to which she obliged and retrieved with full marks :D

I'm ready for bed now I can tell ya!

Nath,
Great post. How far are the shots you are taking?
When are going to take up the blow gun with darts? :D

Cool, more adventures of Tia.
Tia has become famous in the U.S.
I like the fact that you hunt for the old ones.
Can't tell you how many times I was ordered to hunt for this or that widow woman.
It is my understanding that no one does that anymore ( back home ).
I think it is a tradition I will have to revive.

On a side note mescalero I see you are in Arizona. A friend and his wife just got back from working in Pheonix and touring the area.
They returned with hours of video, dang well broke my heart!

Excellent post as always Nath. I still don't understand why you have to use so much gun on those rabbits.

Nath,

A very timely post. I was out with my .20cal ridding the yard of a few bunnies tonight. Mine were so much smaller. Nice to see pictures of TIA and always enjoy your posts.
