Browning B-92 has arrived (more or less)

Went to my gunsmith today unpacked and registered the B-92.
The rifle is pristine other than a few nasty dings on the stock.
The forearm is perfect. I really don’t think this rifle was ever hunted with.
Looks to me as if it spent most of its time in a gun cabinet since 1983.
My gunsmith said the dings in the stock are from stock collisions of other guns being
Moved in and out of the gun cabinet over the years.

I my eventually do an oil refinish on the stock and forearm, or try a urethane
Touch up on the stock first. After I get better pictures I will get you guys input.

I left the rifle and marble sights with the gunsmith for sight installation.
I will indeed get much better pictures when I pick it up after sights are installed.

Get out your wife's iron, place a wet wash-cloth over the dings/dents, place the hot iron on the wash-cloth for short intervals and you'll be surprised how much the dings/dents will rise/lift. You may not have to rework the stock if you use this method.

I Totally agree.

The question is, why on Gods green earth would Browning ever stop making a
neat little very versatile rifle like this

I mean don’t they see people are paying upwards of $700.00 and more for used ones

That sounds a little scary! Do you mean just the yellow sheet for the transfer or do you have to actually register a long gun where you are?

+1 Modoc, I agree with your suggestion, especially on an oiled stock, but I would proceed with care on that Browning. My 92 has a very heavy poly finish and a hot iron could bubble the finish. I may be wrong but I would be careful.

Personally if it going to be a hunting gun I would not worry about a few dings. You are going to get more, and if you leave what is there you won't feel as bad when you ding it up using it in the field.

Yes the yellow sheet for the transfer registering me as new owner to that serial number
to the state. (PA. for me)

It's not "registration" strictly speaking, as it's the form 4473 and it's supposedly retained by the dealer and not the government. I won't go into the political rant this could become....

So what is that registration / background check phone call all about?
Seems to me there is plenty of personal information given over the
Phone by the dealer during a gun transfer.
Is that a state run agency that's called?

That's the National Instant Check System (replaced the Brady Bunch's most-desired waiting period). That information is "supposed" to be eliminated after a period of time (24 hours?). The legislation says it is, anyway.... So, yeah, some unscrupulous state employee COULD build a registration database, but we know all government employees are nothing but dedicated servants of the people, don't we?

We'll have to compare notes ... I recently made a deal on a .357 B92. It's in Nevada where my oldest lives, and he's going to pick it up for me. This is the first 357 B92 I've seen for sale in years, and the price was right. I didn't hesitate <G>

Yes they are few and far between when tying to track one down.
And they indeed go for big $$.

I just saw a well used one at the local show for under $600. I believe it had been used for cowboy shooting. Some blue wear on the underside of the receiver, and a tang sight I believe.
