OT: Fixed the accuracy problems
I have recently posted about two rifles that were giving me headaches, a Ruger 77 in 7RM and a 10/22 standard. The whole but abbreviated story on the Ruger is this: I got the rifle from my Uncle when I was 12yo. It was my only rifle for over 25yrs and I killed my first 400 big game animals with it. I also broke the wood stock. I could not find a replacement since it is the first generation rifle. I order a composite stock and I never warmed up to the look or feel. It was a pain to bed too. In 1970 my Uncle couldnt find a 7RM since it was a new (2 yr old at the time) cartridge. He has a 77 rebarreled by Douglas with a medium contour sporter barrel. The stock was glass bedded. The new composite stock did not have the proper recoil lug bedding for the magnum recoil. I conclusion was to buy another rifle of the same configuration and swap the stock. When I got it, I ended up pillar bedding and glass bedding the new rifle and putting a match trigger in it. The new rifle is the one that couldn't group better than 1 1/2 inches. Finally got frustated and put the new rifle in the composite stock and used the wood stock to glass bed my old rifled action. We'll see how that goes. I told the whole story to a guy and traded him for a 300WM with a wood stock, sight unseen. I got the rifle and it is a Husky, made in 1970, Model 9000 Deluxe. I took it apart and was surprised to see it is glass bedded with a free floated barrel and has a Herters Accu-Match trigger installed. The wood stock is nicely done with a rosewood tip, monte carlo cheek piece and Herters recoil pad. I also sold the 10/22 for more than I paid and ordered a Henry .22 rifle. That oughta solve the accuracy problems with those two rifle - now they're someone elses.

Re: OT: Fixed the accuracy problems
I was hoping you found a cure for the 77. I have an older 77 with the tang safety in 7mm Mag, my father in law gave it to me brand new for a Colorado Elk hunt we went on in 1987 or 88. It never has been a great shooter, definitely minute of elk/deer though. I worked over the trigger, free floated the barrel and glass bedded the action, with little affect. One of these days I'll buy some dies and see if I can find a load that it likes. Parting with it just is not an option being a gift from my father in law, who has passed.

Good luck with that Big Seven, Salvo - Ruger had a couple of years worth of bad barrels, back then, before they started making their own.
Ruger started off using Douglas match barrels, but changed to Wilson barrels - which is when I believe the bad apples started to show, every now & then.
I had a 7x57 that I never could get to shoot any better than 6" @ 100yds w/anything, and sold it off for a somewhat newer .30-06 RSI that shoots well under an inch w/factory ammo.

Joe:
Let us all know how that henry shoots. I am kind of looking at one as I want something to practice in the backyard using the Aguilla quiet rounds with.

I did not know that, I must have got one too
Wonder how much a new barrel would cost?

Re: OT: Fixed the accuracy problems
Joe, my grandson bought a Henry a few months ago and it is a sweet shooting little rifle. The only problem with it is the front sight, it is wide and at about 75 yards it will block out the target. Some one here a while back made a front sight for a Henry but I can't find the post. I think you will really like the little carbine.
