Can you post some ballistics for the .338 Marlin Express? How close does it come to the Federal .338?6pt-sika wrote:Check out Hornady's 2009 Annual !

Re: New Levergun Articles Out
I've been curious as to how well the takedown mechanism works on the new BLRs. I guess I'll have to go find that issue of G&A when it hits the shelves. Cool that they used the .358 for the article though.

Look on Hornady's website they have ballistics for the 338 Express on there !Modoc ED wrote:Can you post some ballistics for the .338 Marlin Express? How close does it come to the Federal .338?6pt-sika wrote:Check out Hornady's 2009 Annual !

In the article they are showing ;
338 Marlin Express with 200 grain LE bullet ,
muzzle velocity 2,565
muzzle energy 2,921
338 Federal with a 210 grain Nosler Partition
MV 2,630
ME 3,225
I already have a 338 Federal barrel for my Encore Pro Hunter and it does pretty well for me with factory using the Barnes 180 and the Nosler 210 PT . I've handloaded some Hornady 225 SST's and they shot pretty decent also !

Re: New Levergun Articles Out
According to the article, the BLR takedown feature worked seamlessly.
The scope (
) was attached to the barrel (only), and the user had to only unlatch the takedown lever on the bottom of the rifle, ahead of the magazine (after opening the lever I would opine), and pull the barrel straight out, to end up with two pieces.
It seems the latch operates directly on the barrel's attachment to the receiver - which should be OK, as IIRC the BLR bolt locks into the barrel ILO the receiver.
The rear of the scope used was even with the rear end of the removed barrel section - so stowage looked to be simpler than if it hung further to the rear.
I still miss the old BLR styling, with the flanged stel receiver ends ala Winchester 94 - not caring much for the newer BLR's looks & material.
