Re: OK, I will ask the question...Your favorite Rifle?
hfcable,
Great looking rifle
If you don't mind me asking, what did you use for the green background
in your photos?
Maybe I should ask our resident photographer this why question. (Kirk)
Why do firearms seem to photograph so much better on a hunter green background?

Re: OK, I will ask the question...Your favorite Rifle?
I've got an old scarred up Marlin 1894 chambered in .357 Magnum that I'm awful fond of. It sports a tall post up front and an M1 Carbine sight dovetailed into the rear. It has a small sling bar soldered on the side of the front barrel band which allows it to ride flat across my back when slung and the barrel length is just right to use as a cane or to support my binos when sitting. It's collected a lot of collard peccary, including some onery ones, and has guarded our house and hides from things that bump-in-the-night on more than one occassion. It runs on any 158 grain bullet its feed and it will be the last thing I hold onto when they come to get it and me.

that is a gun pad made for use when cleaning and disassembling guns, and i got it in Bob Ward Sporting Goods store in Bozeman MT ; it was less than $20 and serves its purpose well and is excellent for a photo background.casastahle wrote:hfcable,

Re: OK, I will ask the question...Your favorite Rifle?
I suspect it has to do with the same kind of color combinations/contrasts that complement and set off each other, per the color wheel (complementary colors, split-complementary colors, etc.). You see it all the time in make-up, clothes, etc.casastahle wrote:Why do firearms seem to photograph so much better on a hunter green background?
For example, traditional thought is that a blonde looks best in a black negligee while a redhead is better matched with an emerald green one. Given that the rifle stock is browner, with reddish undertones, the darker hunter green hue works well. If lever guns and backgrounds were make-up, one would say that they were "autumn" colors (an example of "analogous" colors).
Now, that AR-15 wouldn't look as good against a hunter green background as a Winchester does.

Idiot,
I for one would like to see some photos of your .357 it sounds like a well set up rifle. That sling swivel on the front band intriges me.

Hmmm, I can't say I've ever combined those two scenarios in a single thought process...alnitak wrote:For example, traditional thought is that a blonde looks best in a black negligee while a redhead is better matched with an emerald green one. Catshooter: Here's some photos of the old shovel.
Admittedly it's a beater compared to some of the rifles posted in this thread. But, it ain't seen a closet in a long time and it's a tool I can and have relied on.

Looks like the rear side-sight-mount filler screw is backed out some - better check it before it falls out.Idiot wrote:Catshooter: Here's some photos of the old shovel.
Nice gun, by the way!

My favorite rifle(s) would have to be my M-71's. There is something about those gun's that touches the soul. It's of bygone days, the deep woods, the feel when it is sholdered, the way it carries. It speaks to those who know it well...................
Model-71's forever !!!!

I dunno - for a rimfire this BL 22 maybe -
or a semiauto that reminds me of my WWII Garand
or a 94 30-30
but - this one my wife gave me for our 25th anniversary four years ago - hard to beat a 95 30-06
this is the kind of problem we all should - and probably do - have.
