I have used the second one on a H&R Clasic 45-70. They do make for some accurate shooting and sight options, but they were no were near as fast to acquire/align as a blade or bead sight. I ended up putting the blade type insert in and leaving it there.
I too, used the second one (Lyman) on a early Wesson & Richardson (H&R) .45-70 Buffalo Classic 32" barreled rifle that came sans sights.
I liked it, for the uses I put that gun to - switching reticles, depending upon what I was doing (target work or silhouetta or sniping from a treestand)
My BC has the 17A AFAIK so I know how good they can be.
Reading more, it looks like there's another piece that is needed to install the first sight but I don't see any other parts listed? The second is supposed to be used with the 90MJT (IIRC) receiver sight but that sight is for bolt actions. I suppose an XS or Skinner peep would work?
If these walls could talk, I'd listen to the floor.
