OT - Making the trip in 8 hours !

Post by 6pt-sika »

Okay boys I'm making the annual pilgramige to the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge for the first day of the shotgun season !

And the preferred quarrey you might ask ? None other then the man killing Sika Deer !

Took my Savage 210F 12 gauge Slug Gun to the range today and checked it for about the 12th time to make sure it's still okay !

Earlier this year I sighted in my Savage 10ML for the early ML season on the Blackwater and had about a 100 yard shot at a 6 point Sika Stag . I missed and came home later to find out my ML was 5" to the right and 3" high ! We ain't having that stuff this time (I hope) !

Have my slugger sighted in with bothe the Winchester Polymer tipped "XP3" and the Hornady Polymer Tipped "SST" .

My "available" bag limit for the day is a Sika stag and hind as well as two whitetails but of which only one can be a buck !

Taking Thirteen slugs ! Also dragging along my little Remington Sparten 12 gauge SxS with the 20" barrels and screw in chokes (full and full) . Have about ten of the no longer made Remington Hevishot OO Buck loads !

So I will be heading to bed here in about 2 or 3 hours and then be heading out about 1 AM to get to Blackwater at 5AM for check in ! Got lunch and everything packed so I just might sit my stand for 12 hours tommorrow ! 5:30AM to 5:30PM man that will be a long day if I do :!:

Well as some might say "No Seeum so NO shootum" !

Pretty nice day though and many folks within a couple hundred yards of me seemed to be shooting at something !

Is that what a deer looks like with "euro styling"?
... I love poetry, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick.

Anywhere else in Dorchester County I could hunt with a rifle .

But the regs on the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge specify shotguns with buckshot or slugs !

But then when you consider I have shotguns capable of shooting a deer at 200 yards that kinda kills the idea of using a short range gun .
