OT - In Anticipation of the 338 Marlin Express

Post by 6pt-sika »

In anticipation of the upcoming 338 Marlin Express I got my TC Encore Pro Hunter 338 Fedral barrel ready to sight in last night !

I "borrowed" the Leupold VX1 4-12 from my Savage 10ML and mounted and boresighted it !

Then I went in the shop and loaded all the empty 338 Fedral brass I had with 45 grains of RL15 , a Hornady 225 grain SST and a CCI200 primer .

Then today (in the rain) I went to the gun club and sighted the whole mess in !

It shoots about 1.5" 3 shot group at 100 yards which is good enough for the whitetail here at my backdoor ! Of course I have center of group 1.5" high at 100 yards also !

Just can't quite figure out how to fit a Marlin lever on the bottom of this thing :D

About 4 years ago I pole axed a whitetail here at the house with the then fairly new 325 WSM and I certainly expect the 338 Federal to pretty much do the same thing ! Sure I don't need it , but since I already have it I see no reason NOT to use it

My wife has asked me a few times, "Do you need a new gun?" She expects that I'll go with my tail between my legs or something. I respond, every time, "No, I don't need a new gun--I want a new gun." Then, I look at my available funds, and slink away . . .

I've not even put a round through my 308MX yet so I'm going to restrain myself buying anymore until I've fired all of my current closet queens

I plan on buying one but I need to handle it first and check fit and finish. I'm not sure when they are hitting the stores, but if it's not till late in 09 then I might not get one till the following year. By late in the year those pesky gunshows seem to make my gun fund dissapear.

I would anticipate the 338MXLR and or the 338MX hitting the shops around late june or early july !

Thats about when the 308MXLR and 308MX started popping up last year !
