32/40 Headstamps

Post by Leverdude »

Hey guys,

I have a bag of brass I got on E-bay awhile back I'v been useing. Mostly modern winchester brass but a few odd ones.
A few weeks back someone was dating brass by headstamp & I was wondering if anybody knew the age of these. If I remember right the WRA CO is an old headstamp but I dont know for sure.

Dating cartridges by headstamp is difficult, but I'll try to offer a few suggestions. The cartridge on the far left is probably late 1930s, the second could be as late as just post WWII, the third is '50s and '60s, with the Western being roughly the same. The earlier cases are often marked WRA Co, or WRA, and .32-40 WCF. Someone with some REAL knowledge on headstamps will probably clarify this for you, though.

Thanks fella's!

I'll set them aside & see if I find anymore in the bag. The WRA CO one is played, I think it'll separate at the cannalure they used behind the bullet if I try & use it again anyway.

Kinda broad time period they could have come from but they MIGHT be old.

Thanks again.

I usually just use up old cases, as the values are good for factory loaded rounds, but not so much for empty cases. I'm reloading a lot of pretty old brass, just because it's already been reloaded, so the values are low.

If I need them I'll use them up.
At this point I have a bunch so putting half a dozen aside wont hurt. I'm suposed to be building a cartrige display for my son anyway. I'll use at least one for that.
